Fellas I've got a few questions about fuel filters. I must admit I've been neglecting my fuel filter maintenance. I just hook up the bassboat and go!!!
How often do you change them? I just changed my filter after (20k since the last time I changed it :() with a Wix filter (Part # 3910). After doing so it increased my mpg. Can someone explain why a new filter helps my mileage?
Also, I've read a couple threads on double pleated filters? Is the Wix #3910 the new design? Is Wix worth a darn?
Thanks in advance guys!

Buy the nictane kit from the board owner here. Then you can neglect the oem filter all you want. But you will need to change the cat filer every 10k.
I think the oem needs to be done about 7.5/10k miles to make the injectors last.
Use a good additive as well.
Other wise your probably going to have issues.

I think the 3910 is the new double pleat design. I currently have the old 3810 but look forward to installing the 3910. Wix is great, the best in my opinion, I use em for air and fuel filters.

All fuel filters for the Duramax are still manufactured by Racor. Buy whatever one you can find the best price on. I've been changing mine at 10K intervals and plan on staying with that schedule with the new, double-pleated filters.

The owners manual says to change the fuel filter every 15,000 miles. However, depending on the quality of the fuel and how the truck is used, that may not be frequent enough. I am adjusting to a 10,000 mile schedule.
You should cut the old filter open and take a look. I just changed mine and another one this weekend and cut both of them open today. They both had about 11,600 miles. Mine looked like it could have made it to the 15K change. However, the other one was definately due for the change. About 50% + of the fuel in these two trucks can from the same stations. I was surprised to see the difference in the condition of the two filters.
I do not know why the milage would increase when you installed the new filter. I hope someone in the know will answer. Many report an increase in throttle response, which makes sense when the fuel flow is no longer restricted.
