I have a 1995 1500 6.5l turbo diesel, I was out plowing and my reverse started out just being very weak (would move at high rpm's) I think it needs to be rebuilt but I just want to make sure, the trans shop is going to charge me around $1700 for repairs. I have had the truck for about 2 years I dont know if the fluid was ever changed, I never did it though. Would a trans flush resolve it? Where should I start? I need it for plowing by friday.
thanks

sounds like a broken or worn band,if not keeping the truck you may band-aid it

Pull it down to 1st gear and see if it will move. Reverse and manual 1st share the same band. If it doesn't go your band is smoked.

lets say it was just a bad band for Rev/1st how much has to come out to change it? is this a band at the bottom of the drum stack or by dumb luck would it be on the top?

ok so if first gear works strong buty have no reverse any chance this is just a solenoid? If i go to Rev I get nothing not even a hint of moving, but if I move the shift lever from 1 -OD everything is strong I can even smoke teh tires in 1st. I do not plan to keep the truck to much longer as the meter reads 334000 miles and I am not sure if the trans was ever replaced. ANy suggestions are appreciated
lost with out spark plugs

((((((((((((THIS IS NOT A TEST FOR NO REVERSE)))))))))))))))))))))
This will show if you have a bad sprag And no foward .

Do you have 3rd? do you have neutral?
No 3rd that would stop rev from working. If you can drive foward in neutral. diffrent problem but still no rev. Solenoid for no rev not very likley.

If you have a slipping or no 3rd then its your direct clutch. If you have all gears but no engine braking in manual 1st then it's the lo/reverse band. The low/reverse band failure will not cause no movement in 1st.
