Any ideas? I have an 04 2500 D Max with 55k miles on it. In the last 4-5k miles the power steering is getting worse and worse. I took it to the dealer a few times and they said because of the oversize tires (285/75/16) that's my problem. I have a hard time buying that now after all these miles the tires are causing a problem. I've had the tires on it since day one.

Any ideas?

So exactly what is the problem?

Do you feel any weakening in the brakes during steering?

I know when my son had the 315's on his truck, the steering sucked!

Check to make sure no leaks from any hoses especially at the crimps. I had two that leaked. One from the pump to the hydro boost and one from the pump to the gear. Replace.

Next replace fluid with a full synthetic not the valvoline stuff...I use redline.

Finally install the power steering cooler to maintain steering when hot.

My truck use to groan and was just plain hard to steer in the parking lot...now it is easy and no more groan.

Brakes seem fine, just no power steering at all at slow speeds/Idle. Mostly just trying to back the boat in the storage unit with no power steering sucks!!

Thanks for the tips, I'll check this out.

i wouldn't think that size tire would cause that, not in my travels. i would try a power steering pump test.(it's a gauge you put on the highside) i found quite a few pumps fail over time.good luck!!
