Not really sure if I should be bitching about it, but I recently purchased a remanufactured transfer case from the dealership for $1300. Since I was waiting for my MA upgrade for the pump-rub problem, I never took the case out of the box until Friday night when I was ready to perform the install. I get the case out of the box and set it up on my tailgate to split it open and notice what appears to be a patch job on the back half of the case. I get the case split and you can see where someone applied a liberal amount of epoxy to the corners subject to the rubbing. The pump itself had one of the new clips installed on it, but it still looked as flimsy as the other one.
Before I got the case apart, I noticed that there were three individual snap rings at the reluctor gear. Obviously, there was only one holding it on, but why three? With case split I removed the snap ring holding the bearing above the reluctor gear. Inside the new bearing I find a piece of an old bearing part that was probably a sixteenth to and eigth inch wide by a couple inches long (very thin). I was getting pretty pissed at this point, so I examined the rest of the case and found nothing else out of sorts or damaged. Since I was dropping the truck off the following day to Kyle at Crank It Up Diesel, I installed the upgrade and buttoned everything back up.
I did call the dealership and told them what I found and he promised me that he would contact their rep to find some resolution to the problem. What do I ask for? Money back on the case? A new back half? He certainly understood my beef, but cautioned me that once I split the case the 24mo warranty was void.....not that he was going to make that common knowledge without some tact.
Kyle is working on the truck as we speak, so I am excited to get back on the road. Will come back to me with a new adapter housing, reman (upgraded) t-case, and new u-joints.:D
