the road salt in new england is horrible...just wondering what others do to prep their trucks for winter...gm's frame paint is horrible it rubs off with your finger so i'd like to protect it...i'd like to use Krown...but thats a canadian thing...

Road salt. Grrrrrrrr. I give the truck a couple coats of wax as late as I can, usually December. I swapped the good rims for the stockers. I've been painting the frame/rear axle/suspension with good 'ol gloss Rustoleum every season. I try to at least rinse off the salt CONSTANTLY, getting the frame, wheel wells, under the cab, molding crevices, etc...all you can do is slow the process down, it can't be stopped around here...

yup, krown works really well, use it on all my winter veichles...i did however have my dealership install an electronic rust inhibitor when i picked up my LMM...not sure if its just a dealership thing but its warrantied for 10 years that if the truck rusts at all the re paint it for me...time will tell i guess

I undercoated with rubberized asphalt, because my truck will be on the east coast some, but it's mainly out west where they don't use salt. But it can't hurt.

i constantly rinse my trucks but it doesn't seem to help...i use a hot pressure washer...i didn't know if anyone used any products...i used WD-40 on my quads in the past to help with clean up...maybe if i sprayed that on the underside?

funny i found the same cure. no road salt problems down here.

when i was staying in mass the best is to have it waxed and then get some undercoat on it. i undercoated my 6.5 dually and when i sold it still had no rust and the undercoating was still intact. dont get the cheap stuff that uses a spraycan. get a gallon and brush it on thick. and washing whenever the temps allow

Every chance I get I go to the car wash and keep it on high pressure wax and flush out the wheel wells, undercarriage, everywhere. Wax is your friend! Dont rinse the wax off. Wait til you see what your exhaust pipes look like if they aren't 304 stainless in the spring!

My dads old trick was to mix diesel fuel and used motor oil in a garden sprayer and spray the underside of our old cucvs'. It always worked well here in PA. Take yout exhaust tips off, they really get caked with shit here. Mud flaps, big ones are your friend for stone chips, I am anal about stone chips Ive even used tape on my rockers for the winter so I didnt get them on my truck.

spray wd-40 on all the chrome and wash it all the time. Salt will always win in the long run no matter how well you clean it.

the gm trucks frames arent even painted from factory just waxed and that comes off in like no time.

I hit the frame with a wire brush and any noticible rust areas with a rust neutralizer, then I spray it with Duplicolor Prof. undercoating (Spray can from Autozone $8). Any areas you dont want undercoating on, I usually hit with tire foam. The oils in it help keep the salt from sticking to the metal, basically what the WD40 does. And of course, try to blast it with the pressure washer any chance I get.

x2 I paint everything underneath with rustoleum at least twice every summer, and wash the truck every week in the winter. I also wax the hell out of it. And keep everything well greased.:) If there is a small spot of rust it will grow 3 or 4 times as big in one winter, makes me sick. I like the scorio out in wyoming much better.

Whats wrong with Canadian Made?:D Usually things are US made ,:D Wash the road salt off often, in 86 I was washing my 86 Toyota pickup it was -25C the one guy said why bother it will only get dirty again I shower knowing that it is a forgone conclusion that I am going to get dirty again. I have big mud flaps that keep most of the stones and salt down where they belong. Just wash often. Maybe I will consider Krown on my 5500 then?????
