I am considering getting a lift for my 2004 Duromax in order to facilitate 315/75/R16's -- tires I cannot get at the height the truck is at now, so I was told. In looking into lifting the truck, I have gotten mixed answers -- someone told me that lifting my truck with the torsion bar and putting a 1" spacer in the back will give me the height I need. I want to know if there is/are any negatives to lifting my truck to begin with. I do want the tires, but will let it go if it's not worth it in the long run to my truck. In looking into all of this, I have read alot about "green keys" -- what are "green keys"?!

First of all, Welcome to the Place! :ro)

"Green Keys" are 1/2 ton GM torsion keys. Gives you about 2" of lift right off the bat. Eric has them for a good price (see link below) and IIRC he was offering to loan the proper install tool for a deposit, too.

theres no way those tires will fit with a torsion lift, have to be 4" lift or better. i just did mine & put on 285s, they hit only when cranked all the way over. after finding out the hard way, the ride is no better than bad stock shocks when cranked up

thats my opinion, im not a tech

Wanna bet?

I run 315/70/17's and have no rubbing issues. Fingers is running some totally outrageous size, and he doesn't rub (mind you..he modified the wheel wells)

You HAVE to do some trimming of the front air dam, and you HAVE to tie back the rear of the wheel wells and the parking brake.

i took the air dam off, tied cable & wheel well off

Here's some pics of my 02 with the H2's (315/70/17) on.

Noreaster, that's odd that your 285's rub like that. Many people run that size and don't have a problem. Could it be that your wheels have a different backspacing than stockers? Maybe thats the trouble....

Just throwin ideas out there....

4" back spacing, it only hits when cranked all the way, hits on bumps at 3/4 over

Noreaster,

IIRC, aren't stock wheels 4.5" BS? I need a wheel expert to verify that one. If so, that 1/2" difference could be the culprit! Also, I think the H2's are 5" BS. I'll have to search old threads to see if I'm right.

thats what i got off of the website, i have eagle alloy 589s or 089s. check it out, that will be helpful knowledge when i get new rims soon. keep these for the winter, probably going to put 265s back on the eagles for plowing, the salt has killed the finish on them. was thinking about weld mountain crushers.

Noreaster,

Found this thread, http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2305&highlight=stock+wheel+backspace talks about backspacing.

This one has a bit of info toward the end, by Professor, http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6369&highlight=stock+wheel+backspace

this one talks about larger wheels, and rubbing. http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7042&highlight=stock+wheel+backspace

Yeah, I'll bet the backspacing is it.

Tom (keep in mind, I'm not a tech....but I did stay in a Holiday Inn once.)
