My 2006 Monroe Kodiak 4500 has started making a thumping sound that can be heard at low speeds. It seems to be in the steering shaft or front left shock. I find no play in anything and kicking on everything under the truck I cannot repeat the sound.

This noise seems to be getting worse. Anyone had anything like this? I have tightened the panels all around the truck and stuffed rags behind them so most of the usual noises are gone inside the cab. I have wire ties on everything that can bump the firewall or finders, no help!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

J. V.

Not sure if Kodiak has the same problem. But the pickups have a intermediate shaft noise. Here is a link to the repair. Intermediate Steering Shaft Permanent Fix for $5 (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192072).
Our 2004 Malibu Maxx had this problem. Dealer lubed it. Happened again in less than 6 months. Took it to a independent repair shop. They installed a grease fitting and lubed it. Have not had a problem for over a year.

My truck was making a thumping noise after sharp turns. I thought it was the shocks or the springs shifting, but it turned out to be that the removable fender well had not been properly re-installed after I took it in for its last oil change. It was hitting the tire and releasing with a thump. Hope this is all that's wrong with your truck.

When hitting bumps?
related to rotational speed?
