When my Dmax is running all I smell is fuel. The second I turn the truck off fuel starts dripping like heck under her. Any idea where it's coming from? Could it be the return line? At the price of fuel now I don't want to waste any. I await your suggestions.

Try tightening the fuel rail pressure sensor on the drivers bank.Ever had yours replaced, yet?

No I haven't had to change it yet. Is it easy to access it?

you might want to look on top of the motor and see if you can find the leak. could also be a lose fuel rail.

Don't put your hand near the high pressure lines to look for the leak though! 23,000psi will go right through your skin!

I'm gonna have it checked out tomorrow am. Is it a PITA to access the fuel rail pressure sensor? Maybe I could see if I can tighten it myself?

If I recall correctly, the FRP sensor is tightened with a 1 1/16 crowsfoot...

.
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Condition/Concern:
Fuel leak from the fuel rail pressure sensor
Recommendation/Instructions:
Verify torque on the fuel rail pressure sensor is 70N·m(52 lb ft). An extension and a 1-1/16th inch crows foot may be required to torque the sensor. The crows foot should be kept at a 90 degree angle to torque wrench in order to apply the correct torque. Refer to SI document 676030 fuel line torque procedure for detail on torque procedures. You cannot get a socket on the sensor due to interference with the turbo.
If the leak continues after verifying the correct torque, replace the fuel rail pressure sensor gasket P/N 97329567.
If the leak continues after replacing the fuel rail pressure sensor gasket, replace the function block (supplied with fuel rail pressure sensor installed) P/N 97208076.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.

Max Payne thanks for the great info provided. The garage is closed today so I'll have to wait till tomorrow. I noticed that the fuel is running down the drivers side of the engine and dripping off the bell housing. I really hope it's just a loose fitting.

A loose fitting it was. It was a real SOB to get at I tell ya. It was actually leaking from the front of the motor and wasn't near the fuel rail pressure sensor We unbolted the a/c pump to get at it. The crow's foot came in handy to tighten it up. Everything is running good now.

My 2001 chev Duramax is in shop now for same problem. Replaced fuel rail. Was leaking like yours. However, now they called and is surging sounds like fuel pressure requlator. Fuel injectors have not been replaced 83k They said they had a new service bulletin for the duramax but I don't know what it involves..

When my fuel pressure sensor failed it did exactly what yours is doing, but it also turned on the SES light. Mine was caused by the sensor leaking internally, which the tech said was common on the 01's.
