ive been looking around for them i have read other threads and didnt see much all the ones i see mount infront of the skid plate i dont want to take it off road hit a rock and then no more intercooler. " scrufdog " has one i really like i just dont know how well it works (asked him no reply yet) and DSG has one but really spendy ($1600+) i have read to go with JK/Spearco ?? i think thats their name and then run your own tubing ... dont know kinda lost:(

also im looking for a ram air hood for the intercooler (im shooting for scrufdogs design) i found a decent one i like with keystone its the

- 442-Style Twin Scoop Ram Air Hood
-(PRT #) GHG-102

just wondering if anyone knows of anyother companies that make hoods htat arent an arm and a leg

I have the Kennedy IC. It mounts where the skid plate normally is.

Im heading to the diesel 4x4 junk yard today to see how much they want for a 1st or 2nd gen dodge intercooler.

There is no way that I will spend that much money for an intercooler.

If I can't fabricate it myself, then it probably definatly doesn't belong in there.

Has any one just flat out made one...from scratch? It doesn't seem that complexe to me but I may be overlooking something.

Do you feel that there is room or will you be using the rad to? Do you have a/c?

Has anyone tried a durabux intercooler? I've seen a couple new take-outs on craigslist here for $100 each.

go over the flea-bay and under stores; look for "just intercoolers". I priced a 25"X12"X3" unit (which will fit tucked under bumper) for around $80 or so and the tube kit went for about the same.

On a 6.5TD you can not place the intercooler in front of the radiator. The 6.5TD can not handle the extra heat from the air from the intercooler and will cause the 6.5TD to overheat. The 6.5TD is already prone to overheating if run hard pulling our racing and sometimes just driving. We our you or anybody does not want to give our 6.5TD any more our other reasons to overheat.

If it could be done, dont you think it would have already been done?

I do know of people that put a cummins in a chevy with an intercooler. It takes a few cutting and modding around the grill area. But for a cummins it can be done.

It is great you come up with these ideas. But with out the proper research you could end up purchasing a new motor. i do not like seeing anybody having to replace their motor. It is very expensive.

I don't see how an IC would have a negative affect on the cooling system, if mounted in front of the rad.

For starters, the IC lowers the IATs, lower IAT's = lower EGTs, so that should mean, the whole combustion event happins cooler, then without an IC.

If everything is lower, then wouldn't you think there would be LESS heat in the coolant if you lower the IATs, regardless of the little heat you'd see comming off the IC.

I wouldn't want to touch it, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it'll hurt the cooling system, causing the truck to overheat.

Remember where our combustion takes place, in the heads, so if you cool the IATs, the heads run cooler, so there is less load on the cooling system.

But then again, some 96 trucks and 97+ have the dual t stat and HO water pump, so I would imagine that would be a feather in the cap of the guys wanting a front mounted IC.

Not sure if it would hurt the older trucks.

The reason the IC kits around for the 6.5 are hanging under the front bumper, is because there just isn't enough room to shoe horn one in without major fabrication. Front mount can be done.

I'm just gonna cheat, keep my IC in the engine bay, and put the heat exchanger infront of the rad ;)

"Wait.... Say what?" :D

The IC puts and dispisitates more heat than you think. If it does'nt than tell me why everybody upgrading thsir truck wants a bigger IC?

If you have any friend that has any kind of turbo that is ICed get one of those cool little laser pointed tempurture guage thingys. Tap it once before you go out and drive around. Go drive the piss out of the car, have fun. Then stop someplace once everything is nice and hot. Know tap the laser thingy again at the IC and post the results on here.

You can put a dodge(older model, first year they had one) IC in the front of our trucks. It takes a couple of mods, I do not remember them all. I have seen it once our more.

If you want to put an IC in front of the radiator I say go for it! But, Please! like a hawk watch the temp guage and the Exhaust temp guage! I do not want to see anybody blow up their truck! It makes it a sad day!

hey if its cheaper and can be done with the cummins model with out heavy mods i wouldnt mind it but i use my 6.5 for a winter and towing and going places and trips.. well you get the point a place a car with people and lots of shit cant go .. what year would the early model IC's bekinda want to look into this just to see

The first year or so they put the IC in the dodges. Here is a link (http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/index.php) to another site on conversions. Maybe they would be better to answer your questions. You could also take off your grill and start to measure. If you do go this route watch your guages. All the heat from the IC will help your 6.5TD start to overheat.
