How in the world did you get the nuts off? Mine are so effin tight!

Well, I have not done it, but I have read a generous soaking of penetrating oil on the bolts days in advance helps, as well as removing them on a warm engine.

Thanks, I'll spray some wd 40 on and let them soak overnight. See if that helps.

Might want to use something stronger, like PB Blaster, etc...Good luck with it.

You beat me to it!

I just laid over the engine compartment on a thick stack of blankets and that gave me very good leverage. It was tight but not unbearable.

I guess some guys have tighter nuts than others. :D

Mine were tough too, but the eventually gave up. I think the same gorilla that installed the original oil filter installed those damn nuts!

soak w/ pb blaster every other day for a week. I used a swivil head ratchet box end 12mm wrench and did it when engine was cold.

I also had hit the wrench w/ a 5 lbs sledge hammer to break the stubborn one loose.

I also didnt take the nuts all the way off, just enough to get the pipes to spread apart enough to make sure gasket was on firewall side when i slipped the plate in.

I used permatex spray copper gasket on both sides of the plate and let dry before installation to prevent leakage.

So... I read this a few weeks ago and thought "Geez... why didn't I think of this?" - loosen the nuts by pulling on them from the driver's side. Yeah, you have a little more reach involved, but that way you're less prone to bustin' your knuckles... and you have the leverage of you pulling against the truck. As long as your socket or wrench is firmly on the nut and not prone to slipping off, you should be good.

If I had it to do over, I would certainly try this.

I agree that the 12mm rachet swivel box wrench is the best way to go. Pull the resonator off and pull on the wrench from the drivers side.

Ok, I'll give that a shot. It's hard to do that without it slipping off the nut though. I'll do it in about 10 minutes...motor is still Hot...I'll let it get to warm.

Well I don't have one of those and the regular box end doesn't work and is too small. I got the driver side not loose by pulling from the drivers side...wasn't too bad but that other one is a PITA with the hoses in the way! Still trying to get it loose.

Nice to see you got them. I always say "you can't let the machines win". If they do, then that leads into the whole Terminator ordeal, but lets try to prevent that;)

Ha yeah, giving up is no fun.

I took a box end wrench and put it over the end of the ratchet....more leverage. :D

I bent a box end wrench but putting it in a vise and hitting it with a 3# hammer. Very easy to remove and tighten the nuts. Bye the way the nuts on my truck are 10mm.

Hmm, 10mm huh. Why would yours be different from everyone els? Mine are 12mm just like the directions say that came with my plate.

i used a flex head ratchet

Yep, Flex head ratchet, swivel gear wrench, and box end 12mm wrench were my tools. Found it easiest by laying on top of the engine and PULLING, and using the other hand to hold the ratchet/wrench on the nut so it doesn't strip or slip off.

if mine are that tight and they probably are, I am going to use my pencil point torch tip and heat the nuts some, they should loosen easy after that.

did mine a while back, the nuts were tight but can loose pretty easy to get loose with a normal 12mm box wrench with another wrench hooked to it for leverage. Took about 10 min.

i got off mine without having to remove anything. It helped by saying " Why the ****** are these so damn tight ". I still didn't get, so i said it again with more, louder swearing and also added " You son of b***h " and then it finally loosened up no problem.

Yes, beer has a compounding effect. It can help in swearing and the of bending wrenchs. Plus if you do bust your nuckles it might not hurt as much.

Not sure WHY THE HECK the are so 'effin' tight, holy poop. Mine were a real bear. Seriously, I pulled my middle finger muscles. Couldn't make a fist for a week. Black and blue. Mine were quite hard. But they do go if you dont quit.

There's a product called 'Aerokroil' made by Kano Laboratories. It comes in a 13 oz aerosol can (orange) and will loosen just about anything. It is made for loosening corroded fittings, nuts, and bolts. I've used it on galvanized plumbing fittings that were corroded after 40 years and it worked great. Check it out. You'll be glad you did. I always keep a can of it in my garage.

Before the install was done on mine I used a flex head wrench to get in there to loosen them when the engine was cold. There was only 24000 miles on mine at the time and they looseened without too many cus words.
