i have been studying these threads for 6 months now off and on. i know i need a remote PMD, but i see different sources and even some are home made. heath is the one name that sounds worth the investment - good warranty and complete. for $500 is that the best way to go? that's the first thing i need to do, soon.
also, i notice some signatures have an "F". my VIN's 8th digit is "F". is that good? and why?
i have issues to deal w/but searching before i ask too many lame questions compiling a list of specific needed upgrades and which sources. there's a lot of info to sort thru.

vin f is for trucks that don't have an EGR valve and s is for trucks that have an EGR. At least that what i get from it. Vin F= less problems because you don't have an EGR system to worry about and thats if the above is true. oh i forgot, i have a remote PMD from heath. No problems in the two years i've had it, at least with the PMD. I've had other problems that i'm sorting out slowly

correct. The "F" vin engines are the higher output engine. They have no EGR, no MAF, and also different precups in the heads. The "F" engines where used in Subs, 2500HDs(8 bolt wheels), 3500s and 3500HDs. The "S" engines were used in 1500s, and 2500LD(6 bolt wheels)

While you can do way cheaper than $500 - For piece of mind, and if you don't mind spending the coin, Heath is the way to go. Not sure about other's backing their warranty, but Heath sure will.
OTOH - A good FSD in a nice cool place and you probably won't need a super warranty anyway. Your call...
F is good, btw. Less junk on the engine.

after the posts yesterday, i called Heath. i was impressed that i actually spoke to "Mr" Heath himself. we discussed alot, he's a good guy, very helpful, i'll be doing a few other mod's in the near future including the cooling system. yeah, i decided that Heath is the way to go, no grief. so, i add my name to the list of Heath customers.

I"ve spoken to Bill Heath many times. I used to sometimes get Ian as well, but he's left Heath diesel to go to school. I've gotten Todd once, nice guy. Bill's the best when it comes to the 6.5, period. He tests everything he uses and sells.

I rememeber i was chatting with Bill about glow plugs and he said they put a set of Bosch Duraterms in a cutway of a 6.5L head and put power to them, and after 40+ hours they didn't burn out. 40+ hours constant power is very impressive. The staff had to abour the test because they wanted to go home for the weekend. Bill then proceeded to put that tested set into his daily driver 6.5L suburban and is still using them with absolutely no problems. Thats what i call testing. I'm a heath customer for life(injectors, GL4, PMD isolator so far and more to come) as they are the best in the business.

I echo same thoughts on Bill Heath... never have done any business with him, but have always heard the best.

If piece of mind in a long warranty is what you want... go heath on PMD kit. If you want to do it yourself, mount on your own PMD heat sink in a COOL place. Read PMD thread in signature line.
