Hi, I just aquired an 86 c30 flatbed thats farm fresh :grd:. I'm replacing a broken this and jacked up that, and with those a new dual tank switch is in the mail. My question is this. The truck was setup for a big block and along the way someone transplated the 6.2 in its place. The "gas tanks" i'm assuming are original. The fuel gauge works, level up and down, but is the unit effected by the diesel thats being put in it? If not, can I just replace the sending unit with a replacement gas sending unit? or does it have to be diesel specific? :thankyou2 for any input! Chris

Someone will chime in if I'm wrong, but the sending units are tank specific, not fuel specific. :D

Correct, tank specific. But.....the diesel sending unit assy also has the WIF (water in fuel) sensor built into it on the early model 6.2 trucks. The later ones used the pressure sensor in the fuel filter.

Not important on a changeover but just a useless tidbit of info. It does confuse some parts people!!

Ah, I C, just wondering cause the sending unit is kinda wonky right now and I wasn't sure if the fuel was the cause or just the sending unit itself going south. Lets just say the 6.2 swap "they" did is still causing headaches.

whats the gauge doing??

I replaced both of my sendors, the cheapest i found were on ebay.

I used one two port and one three port, both were for gas tanks. I plugged the non used holes, diesel tanks dont need breathers as the fuel cap is the breather, at least its supposed to be......make sure it says diesel on the cap.

I just bought the cheapest ones.....the ones for diesel were double of what i could find the gasser ones for.

yup, thats exactly what i've found, at LEAST double that of a gas unit, I've got a new tank switch in the mail, any ideas or tips if the dash switch doesn't activate the other tank? thanks for the help.
