Hi gang. great site.
I have a 2001 gmc Duromax/allison 1 ton dually. it is bone stock, and only has 52,000 k on it. We use it in the summer to to tow a 13,000lb trailer.
I live in a cold enviroment ( Alberta).
Two weeks ago, my wife and i took our truck on a one hour jaunt down thw hi-way. When i stopped for a break, I couldn't back up.
The digital gear selector dissapeared for a second. I shut off the truck, re started, and all was fine. But only a few minits later, the indicator would not go into drive. It would only go to 3 , and at one point was flashing.
I got under the truck, and felt around the trans, and could find no loose conectors.
Next atempt the trans worked fine.
Last night we took it the truck for another jaunt. It was cold. At first the shifter was hard to move, but it got better once things warmed up. I stopped at a store, and when i backed up, bingo, ... lost the little indicator again, and truck would only drive in third gear.
any advise? Truck has no warrenty left.
