: What Year Should I buy???
DRAGONFIRERACIN 12-09-2008, 04:55 PM I am Coming over to the dark side after owning many dodges i am ready to try something else. I am starting to like creature comforts more and more and GM seems to have the Best Creature comforts out there. So i am trying to get the best bang for my buck trying to decide what year i should buy. I am not getting a new one so it is 01-06. Which year would you buy? Which year has the least amount of problems, recalls injector issues, etc. I am trying to sell my 12v dodge to get a dmax and trying to get educated in the process. Thanks,
I will be getting a CC SB Allison probably 03-06 help me decide
tytan 12-09-2008, 06:50 PM 06 with the LBZ.
2004duramaxLB7 12-09-2008, 06:55 PM ^^ i hear the LBZ is the way to go, the only problem i hear of is when you start makin big power, the pistons can crack.
tmcran 12-09-2008, 07:39 PM 06 with the LBZ.
X2
bikerboy-36 12-09-2008, 08:36 PM LBZ all the way
DRAGONFIRERACIN 12-09-2008, 08:42 PM Any milage I should stay under? I like the 06 the best but obviosly buying used. What has a tenancy of going bad at a certain miliage. Anything inparticular to watch out for in my searches besides the obvious. I am pretty well schooled on the cummins engine but trying to learn on the dmaxs. Thanks in advance. Jordan
06 LILLY 12-09-2008, 09:01 PM 06 because of the 6 speed tranny, lly or lbz are good but they have weak pistons.
Dan in Pasadena 12-10-2008, 01:38 AM 06 because of the 6 speed tranny, lly or lbz are good but they have weak pistons.
Just curious; is this problem only with highly modified engines or is it an issue with stock LLY and LBZ engines too? Also, does anyone know if the issue was eliminated with the LMM...or does it have OTHER issues?

Stock lly and lbz are fine, I know a lot of timing and a lot of fuel will crack the pistons in them...not sure about the LMM?
DRAGONFIRERACIN 12-10-2008, 10:21 AM i dont plan on Getting to Crazy with it, I dont want to have to Do a transmission, so it will probably be an edge JWA or similar. Is there any miliage i should stay under when i am looking at them?
06 LILLY 12-10-2008, 11:54 AM you should be fine, Not sure about the miliage..the lower the better??
teel23 12-10-2008, 01:02 PM 06 LBZ with almost 40,000 miles and no problems besides extreme smoking and rear tire wear.
tmcran 12-10-2008, 01:24 PM 06 LBZ with almost 40,000 miles and no problems besides extreme smoking and rear tire wear.
Spinning the tires will do that .:D 07 LBZ 27000 no problems except for replacing the ISS.
DieselCash 12-10-2008, 02:34 PM I would buy a 1993 Chevrolet 6.5TD with a 5 speed.
Oh wait that is my truck!!:D
Just kidding!
If you have the money get a dmax with a 6 speed ally. No money than get a truck like mine!:D
jfarr 12-10-2008, 03:59 PM I'd say '06 either the LLY or LBZ, both have the 6-spd Ally matched to the DMAX with grade braking, cruise grade braking, manual tap shift selection, etc. The 06LLY and LBZ are identical engines except for the "hotter" tune that the LBZ came from GM with in last quarter of 2005. 360HP/650TQ with LBZ, 310HP/605TQ LLY. the 2007 "classic" is exactly teh same as the 06LBZ.
DRAGONFIRERACIN 12-10-2008, 11:53 PM Right on guys I will see what I can find. Also what is the best 6" lift. I want to stay with 35" tires so what is the best all around 6" lift
noproblem 12-11-2008, 12:04 AM welcome
Wholly Kaw 12-11-2008, 02:28 AM Get an 02 - 04 LB7. No emissions.
DRAGONFIRERACIN 12-11-2008, 06:47 PM what do you guys think about the Blowing up motors shit that GM isnt covering, Is it only on the llys or is it on all of the dmaxs
duramex 12-11-2008, 08:06 PM i have a 06 and love it but i wish it was a 07 classic with the 100k warrenty
KEVINL 12-12-2008, 07:19 PM the One with a ZF6 bolted to it
donayers 12-12-2008, 09:21 PM I just gotta put in my two cents -- my 03 was by far a better truck than my 05 I still have. The mileage was much better and the programmer seemed to boost it more in the 03. I almost wish I had kept it. In defense of the 05, I DO like the power seat the other truck didn't have and the zero percent money. One year to go and it's all mine!
lotsofmiles 12-12-2008, 09:33 PM Get an 02 - 04 LB7. No emissions.
07 classic lbz with no emmisions:D

Ya, I wish I still had warranty, not that I've needed it but...
Wholly Kaw 12-16-2008, 02:30 AM What the hell is a 2007 classic lbz with no emissions?
Is there an LBZ available with no emissions?
If only...

alleghenyrose 12-16-2008, 05:32 AM My 04 has 105K and the only thing that has gone wrong is the Inner Steering Shaft (ISS) but it is the common defect in many of the series.

Yep, I love my '02. The '04 still has 2 years of injector warranty on it, too.
