Changing the oil, and figured I should finally clean the last of my grounds. With a chain of extensions and a u joint I got the bottom frame bolt off.

Now for the engine bolt. I removed the top nut holding the tranny filler tube bracket and removed the bracket. Then tried to remove the nut on top of the ground connection and noticed the whole bolt twisting! At the same time, all the crud around the base of the bolt started to get saturated and I noticed that fluid is seeping out of the bottom of the bolt. Seeing as this is in the head, I'm kinda worried. Is this normal?

Also how do I remove the nuts without twisting the whole bolt?

Thanks

The problem was that there wasn't enough room for a wrench to get to the bottom nut, so I ended up having to remove the whole bolt. Problem now is that I broke the connector for these two wires that were attached. Not the big braided ground, but these 2 wires coming out of the wiring harness.

What are they for, and can I just solder them back or should I get a new O connector?

Also, I had to move the tranny filler tube quite a bit to get it's bracket away from the bolt, it was stiff, but now is pretty lose, did I brake something?

The two wires are ground wires for different circuits, and each one had its own "O" connector. Put a new "O" on each wire. I suppose you could try soldering the old ones back on, but I'd opt for new.

Since you removed the stud entirely (and now have the room), use one wrench to hold the box part and another wrench to break the nut free. This will be easier if you can put the stud in a vice, then you can use just one wrench and concentrate on the nut.

Remove the broken "O" connectors before putting the gound wires back on the stud.

Other than that, nothing to worry about... all sounds normal.

In the photos in the linked post you can see what i did to the ground wires. I basically went nuts on them. That was early this year, January i believe.

That blue 8 awg cable connects the rear stud to the front stud on the passenger side, where the pass bat negative attaches.

Here's the finished product, with some Di-electric grease to finish it off.

Had the same problem myself. I found if I held my tongue right & said the right words, a stubby wrench on the bottom nut worked quite well to hold the bolt in place. I had the same problem on a ground up front, same side. Taking the whole thing out after removing the wires makes it easier to clean, though.

Like the other fellers said, just use a vice and some wrenches, nothing to get crazy over. The fluid is oil coming up outta the engine, that stud goes down through the intake into the head. Just tighten it back up and it'll stop leaking.

Best way I found to hold that bottom nut was to take an old wrench and grind away a mil or two of metal off the sides. Special Tool for a special job.
