: What kind of truck prices where you're at?

Well, I've done all my exhaustive research on a replacement truck, been through all the brands & possibilities, and have decided on an 04.5+ LLY Silverado or Sierra pickup;) My friend has an LB7 w/o any issues, but I don't need to worry about head gaskets and injectors, so I'm going to get a newer truck and be done with it. I don't tow in the SW, so hopefully overheating won't be an issue;)

I'm in the market for an 04.5, CC, SB, 4WD. Prefer an LT/SLT but would go with a cloth truck if it was clean. Condition matters more than miles, though I'd prefer to be around 100k.

I'm in Michigan, and the prices on these trucks are ALL OVER the board. I've seen listings on Auto Trader and Ebay all the way from mid-teens to high 20s.

Ideally, I would really like to find a nice 04.5 or 05 Crew LT with 100-125k on it for about $16,000. Think it can be done? I'll spend more if I have to, but with the economy the way it is, it's a buyers market, and I'd rather not pay too much for it. I've found trucks at dealerships in the $18-20k range, so I figure I am not too far off.

Any specific sites to check? Lenzauto in Wisconsin has a truck like what I'm looking for in the 18k range.......

Couple questions:

Have the truck prices stabilized a bit? I realize it is winter, 4WD season and all, and diesel is (relatively) cheap again.......thoughts on this? With the Big 3 Bailout, OPEC cutting production, etc do ya think prices will be pretty steady until spring, or will they drop further? I don't *have* to have the truck until spring.........

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks, Ben

I visited a Chevy/GMC dealer in September asking for deals on '08 trucks and my trade allowance was $16,800 for a 2004.5 D/A, CC, SB, LT (68,000 miles). Visited again last week and trade allowance was down to $15,900 at same dealer. Don't know if this means anything! I decided to do some mods on my truck and keep.

Well, I'd say you're a little crazy. ;) I'd be curious to know what you'll be using the truck for. Do you need it to make a living and survive, or are you just looking for a deal on a truck?

Both.

It will be used for my small business, hauling merchandise around........for plowing my personal driveway.......and for towing our 7000# travel trailer.

Well, if you don't need it until spring, I think I'd wait. No telling what's going to happen here with GM or with the rest of the state. If your business relies on Michigan based customers (mine does slightly), no telling what the future will hold at this point. I'm not spending a dime on anything that isn't absolutely necessary right now. :(

Hey, a fellow Michigan-der. I hadn't noticed that;)

My business is an internet-based toy store, although I do have a retail location.

I've got a truck that is coming off-lease in the spring that I need to replace, so I'll be buying something one way or another;)

I think I'll stay firm on what I want and am willing to pay, and wait for the right one to come along.

Thanks! Ben

Jettix2:

I was looking for a LBZ and the one the local dealer recently acquired was beat up previously belonging to a concrete business. They priced 08's but not willing to pay $22,000 to boot! My problem is the LLY came close to overheating pulling a 12,000 # fifth wheel in the moutains. I love the truck and have it equipped nicely but now going to do the LBZ mouthpiece and CAI. If that doesn't work on the OH going with the V2 with fan. If that all doesn't work, going to plan my trips around mountains and hot days if possible.

Good luck finding a truck. I would buy a LLY based on my experience if the price was right. I have pulled the fifth wheel through Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Montana, Texas, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho, but DIC said "engine coolant hot" going over Canadian Rockies last August. It was 95 degrees outside and that didn't help. But the same time the DIC message came on I saw the sign saying "summit"!:):)

I paid $21,000 for my truck about 3 months ago. it only had 34,000 miles on it and all of the maintenance was done at the dealership.

I made a big mistake a bought an 08 2500 ex/sb 4x4 with the 6.0.:( This truck was killing me with the gas mileage. The highest I ever saw was 15 highway and maybe 11 around town. When I towed my 8500 lb TT it barely got 8 mpg. When I traded it in I actually got money back.:)

As for mileage with the LLY, I am getting 16-17 around town and about 17-19 on the highway. I am sure I could get more out of it on the highyway but down here in Florida, if you are not doing 80 mph they will just about run you off the road.

I want to know why vehicle prices are so much cheaper in the states? What your looking for around where I am is 25-30.

A brand new one will end up costing a guy 70+ by the time you drive it off the lot.

Nonsense. :) I live in the Tampa Bay area and drive what speed I want (I rarely go faster than 65). That's one luxury to owning a 7000lb truck - no one runs you off the road! I also keep my travel trailer hitch in the receiver. Go ahead and rear-end me - I'm going to be pushing the motor of that puddle jumper into the front seat before they ever hit my bumper!

Psst: Slow down and those MPG's will rise dramatically. I avg mid 19's around town and 23'ish on the hwy (unloaded).

No, in Canadian dollars.... real money. I don't understand how a country who just printed trillions of dollars can still say thier currency has value.

And nothing is for free... that "free" health care is paid through taxes. And I'm glad it is, its a beautiful system. I just watched the film "Sicko" and basically your guys' government raped you over the coals and played it up like it is a great thing.

Anyways, maybe I need to come down south for my next vehicle. Anybody defaulting need a bailout???

Whether or not your response was intended to be funny, there is no reason to bad mouth our country. The responders on this post are trying to answer your question so why the insult?

I think prices have gone downhill alot since I bought mine....04 LLY SLT 4x4 85000 miles, pretty much all options and I payed $28K but this is in Canada. I now have just over 100,000 miles and I doubt I would sell for anything more than $24,000 here now. *CDN dollars*

Pricing new, 48,000 in AZ, 65,000 in AB. Dealer credit purchase use retail. Cash price may get you 20% off.
Difference on the dollar about covers the spread.
Used market all over the map. Condition is critical.
'05s wholesale in AB from 12,000 up, to asking 32,000 on the lot. Getting that much......?
Many '05's around now that are off engine warranty, 100,000 miles, 160,000 kilometers, or much more miles.

On Edit: I like both countries. 'Nuff said.

People need to understand that bashing on the U.S. on a website comprised of mostly Americans is not really the best idea. Think what you want about our country, as even my views are changing, but its sort of like picking on your little brother, you can do it all you want, but nobody else can. The same goes for foreigners sharting on The States.

Well, keep in mind that GM will (theoretically, I guess) cover the injectors out to 200k miles. And... from what I've heard, they're typically good for 80k miles, so in theory... if you get yours to last out to somewhere between 160-180k miles and then get 'em to replace them again, you could get the truck to last out to 240k-260k miles... maybe more, maybe less... but that's a lot of life to a truck. I'd do that in a heartbeat before buying a Dorf!!

I posed the question and got a smart ass reply, so I sent one back taking a dig at the states. I thought we were playing fair. Its all in good fun regardless of who the majority of people are. And "youall" are moving up here and taking my job away anyways so can we call it even?

But if anyone wants to give me their honest opinion... Our dollars were on par for some time, and previous was not as much of a spread as there is now. But prices were still the same. Why would Canada have such high inflation on a product that the states did not?

Like previously mentioned, a new unit up here runs a guy 65g at best. I recently got a quote on an 08, fully loaded with navigation and leather and whatever else for mid 70's.

And like I said before, our used prices are looking to be atleast 10g more than yours.

Does it have to do with demand??? There are alot of people here that get new trucks every year or two.

first time i've heard that... the way i understand it, people get shuffled around and in dire straights the elderly are simply left to suffer and in many cases die as doctors are unable to tend to them. example: lady has cancer and it took 3 MONTHS to get the proper xrays to determine what kemo treatments or other methods were needed. i wander if shes still alive now, as its been acouple months ago..

There's no calling it even on that poor point.
