:help: I am having a hard time finding a place to hook my gauge lights so they dim with the dash lights! I couldn't find a fuse for the dash lights in any of the 2 fuse panels. I just pulled the headlight/dimmer switch and with a test light searched for a dimmer circuit:( The only wire that dimmed is always hot:confused: !(brown with white stripe)

Any ideas?

My '01 had an "illum" fuse in the driver's panel, but not the '05:confused:

The Brown/white should be the right one. Did you try changing the dimmer setting?

The dimmer "circuit" is in the BCM (Body Control Module). There are two dimming circuits, one for LEDs and one for bulbs. The only fuse I can find is the 10A IGN1 under the hood that seems to feed the BCM. So where to tap? I tapped the bulb circuit in the ride control plug in the IP Relay block. That is the thing down on the floor by your left foot. The ride control plug is the fourth from the left. You want terminal F, bottom right. The one above it is ground. I could not find a matting connector, but used some wire and terminals from a spare trailer plug. Oh, don't try hacking a trailer brake connector to fit this plug. I tried and it doesn't work.

I just thought of something, about why the brown/white is always hot.......On this truck if the door is open the IP lights are on. I will have to go check this out now!

You will not find a dimmer light on the 05 in any of the panels (engine, floor, dash). I looked for three hours one night because my buddy w/ 03 swore to God there was one (he was wrong). Tear the dash apart and pull out the dimmer switch and have your test light ready...I don't remember which color the wire was...maybe brown...or purple. Tap into the wire and put in an inline fuse. That is how I did mine.

I read in a thread a couple of days ago, Violet/White in the harness behind light switch. Hope this helps.

if you pull the light switch out, it is the violet/white wire. at least that is what it was on my 04.5. Just look at the harness and you can see it and tap it.

brown with a white stripe is the one I found that worked.

at the section where the wires connect to the plug, just hold the wire on the metal part, near the plug, and move the dimmer switch until you can see the difference. Make sure you have the other wire grounded. That is how I found it and they may have changed colors through the years. Don't know why, but appears to be so.

Do you have any feeling for how much juice that circuit can handle? I have a bank of back lights and off/on indicators that draw about 1.0 amp that I would like to tie in. I know that on some older models that you couldn't add much before the dimmer switch got pretty hot.

Thanks.
