: Winter Cover Installation Instructions?

I bought my winter grill cover here used, but it didn't have any instructions. I went to Hobby Lobby to get some snaps, but it appears the ones I bought are too shallow to fit through the plastic on the fascia and also snap onto the winter front.

Does anyone have a picture of the rear part of the snap that snaps into the cover? I see from searching that the kit new from GM includes 2 pieces? What is the other piece besides the cover itself?

Also, does anyone have any set of instructions uploaded onto the computer?

TIA,

Gabe

I would love to help you out, but I'm away from my truck, but I'll try to do what I can still.

There are two covers from GM, one covers just the grill and it's really easy to put on. The other cover goes on the entire bumper. Not sure how difficult that one is to deal with because I never used it.

After I get back to the house tomorrow I'll upload a picture of the instructions and try to get some photos of the snaps if somebody hasn't done so already.

Your grille cover had "tabs" with snaps that were sewn into a little plastic bag on the stitching around the perimeter of the cover. Being used, you got screwed, because the previous owner left them under his hood. The tab was a hemmed patch of material with the male snap half and a hole that allowed it to be placed under the 4 plastic push pins across the front of plastic radiator top cover. You'll have to find some male snaps that fit your cover and then make up some tabs to mount on your radiator cover, or just find some snaps and screw or pop rivet them to the top of your grille just ahead of the 4 radiator cover push pins (about 3/4 to 1" in front of the push pins) Pics of the 4 push pins and a closeup of the snap tab:

Grille cover is all that I've ever used. The bumper cover is a PITA to attach, only covers a couple of center slots and traps salt and grit against the bumper and causes rust. I threw my bumper cover away day one.

My male button tabs look different then those. Maybe it's because of the different grille.

As far as installation instructions, I don't believe there were much, just a little piece of folded paper in that plastic bag with the male snap tabs. Basically, there are straight tabs sewn to the bottom and sides of the cover. These have a metal strip in them and they are bent into "J" shaped hooks to catch on the backside of the grille. I always tumble my cover in the dryer for a couple of minutes to get it warm and soft. Then starting at one bottom corner, hook and stretch the cover as you work across the bottom and up the two sides, snapping to the top and finishing in the top center.

Do you have pictures of yours?

Not yet, but I'll take some today when I get to the truck. I won't be back to the house until 6pm though.

I think my cover may be for the '05-'07 grilles. Doesn't look like it matches up correctly.

Can anyone tell what years this fits?

That looks like mine, an '05, but to be honest other than the 01-02 vs 03-07.5 I don't know of the changes. Did 03-04 have a different setup than 05s and up? My buttons on the fan shroud are flush for the cover mounting. I would like to post up some pics, but I'm having issues with the MacBook. I'm still too used to PCs. Sorry.

I put some cardboard between the grill and radiator in my rusted out '88 Toyo. It looks sweet.

How many snaps are on the top of the cover for your '05?

Looks like mine too 04. I have two snaps that replace the pop/push pins that hold the shroud on for the radiator. The rest is just little tabs that bend.

If I still had the snaps, I'd mail them to you. I don't use the snaps. I simply put the tabs around the grill and bungies to the hood adjustments and I've never had a problem with it coming off or moving. Even if I blast it at the car wash it stays put.

Would you be able to take pictures of how the two snaps are installed? Or perhaps you have installation instructions you can upload?

I trimed out some cardboard to fit in the bottom half of the grille. Doesn't look to bad, but have been thinking of putting the pattern on some metal. Easier to paint, and hold up better once I get up to the rainy PNW. Right now the carboard is just safety wired to from the back around the honeycomb.

**Here is a picture of it.
