I am trying to decide the best tire for me when I go to lift my truck. I prefer the look of the Mt's so I narrowed it down to Kumho and toyo. I do have BFG mt's on my 1/2 ton and they have done really well but are not the best in winter. I will be making many trips to canada during winter time with the duramax so I need a good winter tire, I will probably spend 85% on highway so I'm looking for the best MT tire with the best road manners. I have heard good things about the toyos but not much at all about kumho. thanks

Toyo's are OK in snow and ice but mine wore out really fast. Like bald in 25K . I don't know anything about Kuhmo's. I love my Cooper STT's though.

That wierd. I have an exact opposite story. The Toyo's i have were on the original owner's truck for over a year. Not sure how many miles but I assume around 10,000. I just took a trip and now have over 4500 miles total on them and the tires are well over half left! The corners of the tires are still even sharp! I guess it depend on what you drive, how you drive it, and what you use it for! I love them though!

I'm really sold on the AT type tire...Here's my Favorite http://www.hankooktireusa.com/product/tire_detail.asp?pid=290

If you insist on an MT, what about this one.... http://www.hankooktireusa.com/product/tire_detail.asp?pid=358

Be sure to put your pointer over the thumbnails to see the side profiles.

I've never had a complaint on the Kumhos I ran for years, but availability was hit or miss. I'm slowly switching over to the RF10 Hankook, but I've really been impressed so far. I've run Hankooks on and off for years, but they were for my on-road trucks only, before, as their AT tires weren't really ATs. They definitely are now.

Idk what size you are going to run...but the Kumhos are a thinner tire. They say 13.5 but really measure to a 12.5. The toyos is the opposite. The 12.5 measure out to almost a 13.5. I like a wider stance so I won't ever go with kumhos. But it's up to you man.

I really like my Toyo's i have both M/T's and M55's and by far my fav is the M/T's they are a little bit louder than the m55 but you can bearley hear either one of them.
The M55's are better in the hard packed snow and straight road driving but the M/T's are better in EVERYTHING else.

Toyos are the way man...if you have the extra cash do it. Only people who complain about wear are the haulers...but what do you expect ya know? Def. worth it.

Yep and i do haul alot in the summer 95% of my driving is towing and the only tire that will hold up is a straight tread LTX tipe and i will NOT roll on straight tread they dont have enough traction.

thanks for the info guys. I know the toyos are great tires for Mt's but I was really wondering which one (kumho or toyo) has better road manners. I haven't seen anyone in my area with the kumho.

I'll pry be getting to Kumhos tmw or thurdays and can let you know. Kumho from what i heard are better for winter driving due to the tread design.

Toyos are soft. I just got 38's. My friend has 40,000 on his Toyo M/T's and just hit the wear bar. Crazy i know, but this is why i went with the toyos. I had the A/ts (355/1350-18) on my last truck (2004 F250 6.0) and i had 43,000 on them before turning the truck in to ford for lemon law. They almost needed to be replaced to. I probably could have gotten away with 50,000 on them. I would recomend the A/T's if you will be doing a lot of highway driving. Just my .02

Kumhos I have heard are not loud...But few say they are. It depends on the person. I really don't think they are.

i have a pair of the kumho road venture kl71's. good tire for summer not for winter or even wet driving really. what you have heard about them being quiet is true they are quieter then the toyo's which my buddy has and i think will probly last longer but if you look at them close the center lugs don;t have any sipes on them. they suck on wet roads they won't hydro plane cuz there a mt and have lots of space for water to go but you slip and slide more. if you like fish tailing around town they are your tire. same thing goes for winter i took them off to be honest. i live in canada and as soon as the first skiff of snow hit the ground they were almost useless. i see lots of guys run the toyo's all year round so if that helps you make your choice thats my .02
