: Ford 6.0 w/banks 6gun vs Lb7 w/quad 165
silvermax 03-25-2005, 08:55 PM I have a guy that has a banks system on his 6.0 and he's calling me out,I have the quad tune setting on 165 and a flowmaster muffler. What do you guys think the outcome will be in a 1/4 mile, there's alot of braggin rights on the line . Tell me some pointers as I dont have the SD sleeves and I dont want to boost it up too much on my 4wd launch and bend a rod. I think I can take him....:ro)
9W3-HD 03-25-2005, 09:18 PM your running the 165 hp setting on a stock tranny?
a bear 03-25-2005, 09:24 PM your running the 165 hp setting on a stock tranny?
I agree, You will probably limp the tranny or at least contribute to future tranny problems.
IBDMAX'IN 03-25-2005, 09:44 PM You should be ok untill you hit 5th gear in the 1/4 unless you have limped it several times.
If you haven't limped it yet then I would say what the hell, and go for it. Worst that can happen is you smoke some clutch packs and have to upgrade the tranny someday, best that can happen is you smoke the pants off the Ford.
Your choice........."Choose wisely"
briano 03-25-2005, 09:51 PM if you can afford the repairs then go for it
$.02
VFRRider 03-25-2005, 10:26 PM ):h You should take him easy, but the 165 will roast your tranny in quick order, been there, done that.
big truck big power 03-25-2005, 10:32 PM i agree with every one
Mike L. 03-25-2005, 10:48 PM I think the Ford will take you. You better do a high boost launch and get him out of the hole. A good running 6.0 with a program is more than formidable.
fredw 03-25-2005, 11:13 PM you will be able to take him, i have raced before my tranny was done against a ford with exhaust and intake mods, and with a 115bullydog chip, race was always close but he never beat me, so ndo not fear it, but be wise after going into 5th, so you do not limp the tranny, back off a bit, success with be yours
9W3-HD 03-25-2005, 11:31 PM yep ):h
Bronco 03-25-2005, 11:58 PM Just do a mellow launch and lift on the 4-5 shift. No point in bending or limping.
silvermax 03-26-2005, 09:52 AM Thanks for the tips guys,I'll taker' easy on the launch and watch the 4-5 upshift and lift alittle to keep it from going limp. It runs strong and you would be surprized at how well my tranny is shifting with the 165,the truck has 31k on it and I have ran the 165 all the time, just watching myself from beating on it too much but it wont hold in 5th unless I really feather it.
I think im gonna take him, going out and check my air filter and make sure she's clean. How much boost can I take it too with no sleeves? Thats the 500 dollar question( I knew I shouve already bought the sleeves).
big truck big power 03-26-2005, 10:59 AM u should be able to do about 12-15 pounds of boost
Morse 03-26-2005, 11:40 AM Lower the torsion bars, and launch somewhere between 1800 and 2000 rpm in 4x4.. If you're racing somewhere other than the track, hit your brakes before the 4 to 5 shift.. Let him see your tail lights and know he's lost already.. If you haven't been overly hard on it already, don't worry about it.. You just know what you have to do in the future (tranny mods)..
Duramx Man 03-27-2005, 12:14 PM Stupid question, how are you going to launch at 1800rpm. New to drag racing and just curious. Is there some type of device to hold the front brakes or what?
ecc_33 03-27-2005, 01:06 PM 1.Push the 4wheel drive button. 2. Hold the brake firm. 3. Give her some gas (fuel) 4. watch your rpms rise while not moving. 5. Let the brake go and go WOT and hang on because its about to get crazy. All yeah 6. enjoy
silvermax 03-27-2005, 02:41 PM Well we didnt get to race,by the time I got there a storm blew in and were going to try again next weekend. I did find out was he was running though,it wasnt a banks 6 gun but a super chip instead. I still think I can take him, there sure are alot of bragging rights on the line.
VFRRider 03-27-2005, 03:28 PM Superchips website claims +150hp and 255tq for the 6.0. Their DMax tuner is only +95hp, and has never been mentioned here as more than a modest tuner. Be interesting to see how the 150 SC tuner behaves in the 6.0, it may come to who launches best.
MaxFarmer 03-27-2005, 03:42 PM ECC, you forgot to add tow/haul in there.
Jason
Mike L. 03-27-2005, 04:23 PM Joe Webb at Suncoast says the 6.0 Ford with the Superchips kicks some serious a$$. These trucks are no slouches.
king d 03-27-2005, 04:32 PM i would fo said dmax when the ford had the 6 gon but with the superchip,if the ford guy builds boost and 4x4 l;aunches...its gonna be a sad day in chevyville
Super Diesel 03-27-2005, 04:40 PM Becareful about the boosted launches in 4x4 if you don't have the tie rod sleeve on. The race could end instantly. Get them on, turn the tuner down a little (if you can) and give her he**! I have some ready to go you know.
Morse 03-27-2005, 04:47 PM I've lost a minimum of .13 in the quarter every time I've used the tow haul button.. Feels faster, though it actually goes slower.. Mine could be odd.. Just do some testing..
silvermax 03-27-2005, 05:03 PM So I better get some SD sleeves huh? How well do they run in the 1/4? I have to :grd: somehow. LOL
hdmax 03-27-2005, 06:53 PM Running the Quadzilla 165 and with 285`s you don't need 5th gear. As long as you have the lockout, you should be fine.
You will without the slightest doubt beat the pants off him, so long as you don't break, or limp. In which case, you will then lose.:(
If you have the torsion bar keys, the SD sleeves will not help a whole lot. And if you just have the bars cranked, then lower them to below factory setting. For a few races, you don't need to get a front end alignment, and if you keep track of how much you lower them, you can put them right back to where they were without needing an alignment.
You have a week to get the tranny upgraded, and the sleeves. So get spendin`.
Good luck, you can do it!
Powell 03-27-2005, 07:11 PM God I read stories from all of you all... You guys depress me.. LOL
I've had my 04 LB7 Dmax since it was new and have had a 95hp Bullydog at 8k miles. Then put on a Edge w/ Attitude at 10k miles. Ive now got 38k miles and have had a stack forever... Ive ran down MULTIPLE 99+ Mustang GTs, S2000s, SRT-4s, LT1 F-bodies, and PLENTY of other things. My truck is a 2wd Crew Cab with a STOCK and I mean a 100% fawking Stock Allison. Ive limped the transmission ONE time at 37k miles with just the Pup loaded at 155hp...
BTW I raced a stacked Ford with a Predator and some kind of 110 or 120hp chip and I layed the smack down on it.. I'll rip some of the videos of alot of the havoc I have raised in my truck..
I am going to be buying another Edge again because I miss the power :(
Super Diesel 03-27-2005, 08:21 PM If you race with the sleeves and with the bars cranked the wheels will still toe in some if you run 4WD (you will hear the squeeling from the tires). Your tie rods however will not break or bend so you can still drive away. The center link I make will cure the toe in problem.
