With the purchase of a 34-4b arctic fox fiver, I soon realized that I had too much trailer for the current truck. Loaded for bear, the hitch weight is approaching 3,000 lbs. I thought of such things as loading everything in the back of the trailer, moving the generator to a box on the back of the fiver, carrying no water ect, ect. Then I got to thinking.......this is stupid, why not just bite the bullet and get something that is meant to carry the weight?

http://dieselplace.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2393

With GM’s zero percent financing, a suppliers discount number, I went a shopping. Came home with a big butt dually, with most everything my old truck had minus the digital climate control. That was more eye candy than anything, and a pain in the rear to work. I did come away with XM radio and leather. It feels so good. I almost shed a tear as I left the dealership looking at my old friend, I can only hope this one will treat me as good as she has the last couple of years :( , good bye ole gal, I'll miss ya.

Gorhino W2W nerfs with lighted steps on the way, and aluminized cool duals soon to follow.

Hello stability, goodby milage. It's really great to have the extra back there when one of those round black things decides to go boom. Happened to me with my 4000# camper at 65. Scared the hell out of me but no loss of control. Just can't figure out why they put that 4x4 decal on the back. I always say mine is in 4 wheel drive when the 2x button is lit. :)

Enough to give a guy a headache........4X4 or 6X6, etc. refers to the number of driving axles, not wheels......but who's counting. Even that gets a bad rap, since a lot of folks think that the axle "assembly" (third member for instance) is one axle....it's not....pull it apart and you , of course, have two axles...one right and one left. Then to make matters worse, they put two wheels on the same axle and call it 4 "wheel" drive as in your case......why don't they just call them "all wheel drive"......ugh.......time for a nap:muahaha:

BAM,

The rear fenders are about $900 for the parts, plus the body shop stuff! I know this after the wife got a bit close to the steel poles at the diesel pump in my '02!

You can save part of your deductible if you have a body shop buy and paint the fender. It only takes about 45 minutes to install it.

I'll take member #8, unless the newbie guy to this site will be shamed out of it.

3600 i give whats that mean
The 3600 is a factory Chassis Cab with a 2 piece frame as opposed to 3[a little more heavy duty]. They are not box delete but made without. They come standard c/w dual fuel tanks, 84" back of cab to axle,3500 is 55.9"[my dump body is 11' long], 12,000 gvwr, as opposed to 11,400 for 3500 4x4. Basically the same except for the above mentioned.

So I go to the body shop today to drop off my truck. As I jump out I notice a guy standing with a group of staff members out front then he pulls away from his space looking pissed off. He says to me out his window :

"Getting your truck fixed here? Check ya got all your parts when ya pick er up." Then he peels out.

The estimator is standing there shaking his head. I ask ..."What's THAT guy pissed off about?"

He says:

"That customer bought a second hand car. He got us to replace his hood and bumper. He took it and came back a few days later and accused us of stealing new parts off his car and replacing them with used ones...."

Uh huh.

So I played Russian Roulette and left my truck there as they already had all the new parts and the insurance claim paperwork.... guess I'll check 'er out when I get it back.

Put the words "3500 CLUB" for the single wheel 3500 members and "3500 FAT BOTTOM CLUB" written on 2 lines on the front of the shirt over the left chest, but not too big maybe 4 or 5" wide and 2" tall all together.

Then across the back of the shirt put a picture of a single wheel 3500 for the little guy's and a picture of a spankin 3500 Dually with the words "FAT BOTTOM GIRL'S MAKE THE ROCKIN WORLD GO ROUND" under the truck picture for the bigger butt truck owners.:ro) :ro) :ro)

Light grey shirts with blue, red, black or dark grey lettering and picture.

Use silk screen, it seems to last a while on my work T shirt's
And the Hanes Heavyweight 50/50 T shirts have lasted me a long time. Heavyweight in name only the shirt's are quite comfortable in the summer.

HATS OFF TO YOU.
Thanks to you for stepping up. We are not pressing you. Understand the plate being full program. I think we are on to something here to at least have some fun. Make sure you price the shirts to make a few bucks for yourself. Your time is money.:exactly:

As for the design on the the DRW and SRW split, that is not an easy decision. Having 2 shirts is too much work for Chevmeister. An option for the design could be the the 3500 number in some phrase out front, then a Pic of a Dually Rear and a SRW 3500 rear at 1/4 angles heading away as not to see the front. Leave the emblems off as not to distinguish Chev or GMC. Again just some thoughts.

I still like the 1/4 angle of a Chev and GMC Dually as posted on this site above on the back(Sorry SRW Dmax'ers) We are trying to be exclusive ya know.....

Watered Down or Politely Correct a dually is a dually. Wider is better as the phrase goes.

Duramax Dually
04-05-2005, 10:12 AM
Need to chime in here, I am gonna have to lean on the side about the Dually club being just that, "A DUALLY club". Whether or not we call it a "3500 club" or "Big Fat butt 3500 club" the original concept was for DRW trucks. Although the 3500 SRW is a very nice truck, they only started offering this truck this year. Not many people are buying them. Us Dually owners bought our trucks for specific reasons.
I think minimum requirement for the club should be Dual Rear Wheels. Sorry if this offends the SRW guys, but if this club gets diluted as posted above then what would be the point of a Dually or 3500 Club? This way the artwork for the T shirt is simple, One of each division, Chev and GMC.

All in favor say "I".....?.

Opposed???

As for having the artwork driving over a Toyota truck and having Dodge and Ford owners buying them, I think it should stay GM only and keep it simple. Not trying to make any statements other than we belong.

I like being a group of psycho dually owners that bought the truck to tow a house and so huge that everybody steers way clear of you.

I think all of the people changing the name need to stop. The Founders Michael Nelson and Chevmeister have ultimate say in the matter. If you don't like the name 3500 club that they decided on then don't join! If you want to start a toyota crushing club then do that and make your own shirts. Ultimatly chevmeister has the last word on the shirts since he will be making them. The shirts started out simple and nice now they are turning into gawdy redneck hillbilly shirts.:Wedgie:

Sooooo, what's it going to be. DRW, SRW, or both? Judging by the club roster chevmeister posted, it looks like up to this point the 3500 club is predominatedly (>/= 90%) populated by DRW 3500 owners . Having said that, our founding father and president is a SRW 3500 owner. Kind of a dilemma here guys.

I do like the clean and easy solution to the Tee shirt design that Duramax Dually has suggested.

JJs DuMax
04-06-2005, 12:54 PM
Alright if nobody else will say it, JJ will. The original poster framed the thread "Request permission to join the dually club" only to find out there wasn't a dually club. So subsequently a club was started, but not just for dually trucks but for all 3500's. This has caused confusion. I haven't joined the club precisely for that reason. :o:

I'm proud to be a DRW owner, not that I have anything against the SRW's, but most of us DRW owners made our truck buying decision based upon different criteria than most SRW owners, usually HEAVY TOWING! :exactly:

Suffice to say the 3500 Club took off like gangbusters though, its just that the original intent kind of got off course. Personally I wouldn't mind being a member of a "dually only" club since we all share common interests and issues with a DRW versus a SRW. So I have elected not to join the 3500 Club. Like someone posted, if you don't like it don't join. Exactly!

That being said, there may be options: (1) The originators could simply take the 2 SRW members and have a "spin off" club of "3500 SRW" owners; OR (2) the members could "grandfather" these 2 SRW owners and rename the club the "3500 Dually Club"; OR (3) someone could start another club which specifies that it is only open to DRW owners only. Personally I like the sound of the "BB Club", aka Bubble Butt Club, open only to fat a$$ DRW members! Yea Baby, Yea! :grd:

Not trying to flame anyone, just getting the facts on the table. :) Later. JJ

I didn't buy a DRW for the downside of everyday driving while not towing. The FACT is my SRW can pull just as much as your DRW(same engine, trans heck I even have overload springs) you just have a sticker on the door jam that makes it legal to pull 1300lbs more (4x4 CC configuration). Well. It appears this has done like all clubs and has been divided(albeit it is only 3-4 3500 srw trucks) I guess the thread that started all this is not what some wanted. I would never argue the point the 3500 SRW is a darn nice truck but short of the badges on the door, it looks like a 2500HD. Although the towing/payload difference is really close, the look of the truck are worlds apart.

So should we split the group and have a 3500 DRW deal?

I guess I will step back and watch for a bit. I went and looked at getting a custom shirt made. Friend and I are working on artwork. However the art work is DRW trucks....Sorry.

Duramax Dually

OK...So whats going on here with the club...Have we stagnated? Have we run into the proverbial "political bog down"?

I am thinking we need to move on if there is still interest. I guess maybe the best course is to have a Dually club

What's everybody's thought?

If that is the case, lets talk about what we would want as a club. we did not do much of that. I think the expectation should be minimal other than we belong, but here below are a few thoughts.

As members obviously we would not all be able to get together since the cross section of the owners is located across the US and into Canada
Are we in a position where we like to ask the DP Owner/Admin to add a section exclusive to Dually's and eliminate another section with no activity?
Do we all want T shirts?
Maybe exchange e-mail addresses and set up a distribution
Maybe people can communicate there trip intentions and we could align resources in case something happened on the trip. Always nice knowing you might have a dually friend in the close vicinty you can call or set up camp in case something should arise
Comments?

Judging by the response to the original post, 170 replies (# 2 in the 19 pages of threads in this forum) and 3, 774 views (#7 in the 19 pages of posts this forum), I'd say there is considerable interest in forming a dually club. The momentum seems to have waned as we have gotten high centered on the dicey discussion over the focus of the club being for dually owners.

I think Duramax Dually, JJ Dumax, and others have done a great job of distilling the essence of the unique aspects of dually ownership and the interests associated with that ownership. To regain the lost momentum, we need to take the bull by the horns, start a new thread, and start a 3500 dually club. :grd:

I’ll even throw out the idea of nominating Duramax Dually and JJ Dumax to begin/continue the club forming process. Duramax Dually has made some great suggestions for the club and has demonstrated a willingness to keep this dually club forming process alive. :thumb: Plus, you gotta love his fire engine red dually and all its associated mods. :ro)

Well firstly, thanks for the vote of confidence. I want to be clear I do not want to offend or upset anybody nor am I muscling in on an idea of someone else. I, like all of you, responded to the thread as it sounded like some fun and may offer some benefits to us Dually owners.

I am willing to spear head the effort but would prefer to stay away from the title of President. I think as a group we will accomplish more then one person attempting to focus the group.

I will PM Mac and see how the DP owner would accept having a section for Dually's. I know I would like to see threads about

Campers
Towing
5th wheels
Drivetrain updates specific to Dually's
Dually Specific aftermarket items
Pictures of upgrades/Members trucks.
Frontend replacements
Rear bumpers
Tool boxes
Things that work well in general on Dually's
Going forward I will ask for members that want to participate in sharing e-mail addresses to send them to my PM. This will not be used for anything other then setting up a database. I do this as not to take up bandwidth on the DP site. I could PM everybody but that is time consuming.

We all have something in common owning a K3500 or C3500 Dually. Whether it be 100% stock to over the top modified. I think most of us Dually owners had no intention of going nuts with modifications that deviated from the practical use of our trucks. I will think of some questions to post that we can all answer that will allow us to share with each other. Same Campers, Trucks towing capability(Goose or 5th wheel), Wheels, tires and so on. Here is an example of being on a list. I had an acquaintence I had met drag racing. He was traveling from Washington with his Dually and his race car trailer on his trip to Pomona. I said contact me should you run into traveling problems. Well just outside Fairfield Cal, he had a truck problem. Of course one of our largest worries traveling is getting stuck with our trailers(at least for me it was). So he called me and said hey truck died just off 80 and I am stuck with trailer. He was loaded with a race car and all gear and he did not want to leave it on the roadside and the tow bill was going to be horrendous to move both. So I took off and drove a couple of hours to hook up his trailer and tow it to the Hotel he was going to stay at while his truck was getting repaired(Lost water pump, He has a Gasser not Diesel). Like I said in a previous post, it would be nice to know you might have some help within ear shot if you get stranded.

I will work on shirt prices and some art work, I guess the name of the club was never really shored up. I thought for reasons of having this presentable to all of us that the "3500 Dually Club" might be best. Although I like the Big Butt 3500 club and the Fat Bottom 3500 club, for us with wife and children this may not go over well ;)

I am in total agreement with keeping the same member numbers previously established and would like help keeping the list current. Volunteers?

Question that we did not discuss or maybe we did and I missed it, does this club include our Gas counterparts?

Sorry for the long post. Please fire away with any comments or suggestions.

Jeff

"Are we in a position where we like to ask the DP Owner/Admin to add a section exclusive to Dually's and eliminate another section with no activity?"

I PM'd Diesel Power last week asking the same question, no reply yet. :o: Hello? ;)

As for a name, we also have 4500/5500 trucks on the DP as well, but since they only come in dually's and already have their own forum my vote is for 3500 Dually Club, open to gassers or diesels. Only requisite is to have a one ton dually. My brother-in-law modified a Ford Ranger with dually wheels, recommend we hold the reigns on members so we're all talking the same lingo. :ro)

Am I the only one that feels bad for the original SRW members?:( I know, I was one of the guys posting concerns that it wasn't a true dually only club, but ol' JJ has a heart! I will join the 3500 Dually Club, this way I can recommend we grandfather the original SRW's into the club as "Dually Brothers in Training" or something similar. The more they play in our club the more they are going to want a dually. Maybe we give them 12 months to obtain the proper credentials, that is a fat bottom dually! :cool2:

Double D's, your recommendation for not having the title of President of the 3500 Dually Club just lends more credence to what these guys already know from your posts, your a classy dude! :) But every body needs a head, there will be times that a decision will have to be made. How about "King Dually"? ):h I like the way Mackin operates: member first, moderator second! It's always fun to see him kick off his DP mod shoes and kick some butt! :grd: Other thoughts? JJ :)

JJ,

10-4. I have no problem taking the lead when situations present itself to do so, Just never felt the "Power" thing to be President.... Sounds so formal and pretentious(sp). We are bunch of truck guys looking to have some fun and share some ideas.:beerchug:

I did send a PM to Mac last night to get his input on this entire thing and some of the plans members suggested. No response yet. I was going to send to DP Owner but felt he may be too busy. I have not seen many posts from Mac recently wonder if he is off on vacation or something.

I am going to spend sometime on the artwork for the shirts this week. My plan is to have something for us to take a peak at soon if all goes well.

I agree this should be open to both versions, (Gas and Diesel) and for our friends that have been alienated due to them being short a few tires and wheels out back ):h , you are more than welcome to hang with us. You are true 3500's :)

Carry On

Update,
Artwork in the works. One of my Best buddy's, who is a graphic designer at night and engineering colleague by day, is working on it as we speak. We tossed around some ideas over lunch and he said he would make it Awesome looking. He did my race team artwork for my T shirts and Sweatshirts 3 years ago and it was a logo of a Huge Boost gauge showing the needle in the red at 40lbs of boost and the glass cracking. It was very cool stuff. BTW, I used to run my 357 ci SBC engine to 36-38lbs boost. Of course it was a 101mm turbo.

Another thing to consider, I can order sweatshirts at the same time as T shirts. The price is higher of course but they are nice.

For now so I can get a list going, Please PM me with Qty of shirts required and sizes. I will compile the list.

Carry on.....

Chevmeister,
Well Sis in Law has contacts with advertising agency that does all sort of this T shirt, Banner and such. I dug up receipt for shirts I ordered and it was $12 for all sizes up to XXL, XXXL and larger was $15. Sweatshirts were $18 up to XL then $21 for XXL and larger. This includes artwork print both sides. delivered. I have call into her to check if price still applies for her. If someone knows a place that can beat that price please fire away. I am all for saving some $$$. Sis in law or not. These were Hanes Beefy-T's and Hanes Sweatshirts. I had not plannd on Long Sleeve shirts persay but not out of question.

Hey speaking of Steps and Nerf Bars, How much are those retractable deals made by ARB I think, I forget the name. I saw a set of those on the 12" lifted truck the other day and they were pretty slick.

So how much did you end up paying for the Putco's?

I tried looking for the reciept but couldn't find it, only the packing slip as they had to be truck freighted.

If I remember correctly I think I paid about $700 plus shipping.

I found the web site where I bought them.

www.sporttruckandsuv.com (http://www.sporttruckandsuv.com) but something is wrong with the web page, maybe there out of business from selling parts too cheap

Howdy All,
Just to let everybody know. If you do not here about the shirts it is not because they have slipped in a crack and been forgotten, Just gonna take sometime to do some nice artwork...:)

Chevmeister: Well let's do this. I would rather work with a Fellow owner anyday, keeps the process in OUR 3500 family. So how would you like to receive the artwork. I can format the artwork anyway you want. TIF, GIF, Jpeg. Are you Ok with managing the shipment to everyone from your location or do you want to send to me as bulk and I distribute? I am perfectly fine with whatever method works.

We will print front and back of shirt. What we believe will be text on the front over the pocket area saying "3500 Dually Club" Might even have a small pic of the butt end of a dually below it. No logo's to depict GMC or Chev. Back of shirt will be 1/4 angle of both makes of Dually, GMC and Chev. The trucks printed on rear will be pretty much stock, maybe some wheels but not a custom one or specific members truck....The Chev might be red however....

56Nomad: I grew up in Santa Cruz Mountains for most of my young life. Went to Santa Cruz High for a spell. I Live about 45 minutes or so from you. What part of Santa Cruz? Used to surf during my lunch break out by steamers. Cruised the Beach Boardwalk as a kid. Hung with the Reinero's(they hosted the Beach Street Revival for the first 4-5 years). Anyway. I will try and look at everybody's local and see what can be done.

JackPine:Thanks for updating the list, Numbers are growing fast. I have only received about 6 PM's for shirts at this point.

Anybody Heading to Yosemite this summer?

Just trying to catch up to all the posts ... been out of town. So whats up with this club ... I re-edited my signature. I still like the Dually Club thing.

Duramax Dually - I see you are doing the tshirts - let me know if I can help at all.

I think there are unique issues that pertain to dually truck owners and I would really like to see a forum dedicated to it.

Also, if guys want to do a west coast rally somewhere, perhaps at a camp ground ... I would go! ( provided my construction schedule lets me )

Could you imagine a campground stuffed full of growling Dually Duramaxes?

What a sight ...

Anyway ... this is cool. Let's go with the next steps.

TSHIRTS!!!

Jackpine, Bet that took alot of work, fine J-O-B. Not a whiner but I just thought I'd let you know that I do have a dually (DRW). Dont want to be singled outta the FAT BOTTOM club dont ya know. I'd be interested in shirts or something. I would also support a seperate section for the "FAT BOTTOM" group. stay safe everybody.......

:cool2: This is too sweet! I'm finally back after a very long 2 weeks! I just got caught up and am too psyched about all the hype this club is getting. I just PM'd D-Max Dually, as I have a contact that would love to do the shirts and sweatshirts too.

I'm in Michigan, so the West Coast get-together won't be happening for me this year. But I have plans for traveling to TN and MO, so meetings would be too cool with other club owners!!!

AKDually61, your DWR (dually) duly noted on club roster. Surfrippa, your #50, add it to your signature. Now we need to fill in the holes, so next two members to join will be #47 and #49. Following that, we'll move on in numeric sequence starting with #51.

The 3500 Dually Club membership is currently at a sum total of 49.:ro) :ro) :ro)

 Man.......This is fun. Welcome 053500. I think 47 looks open. We will add you to the list

Hey All you GMC 3500 owners, need your help. So here I was pluggin along with artwork and then realized that I have no idea what the 3500 emblem looks like on the door of the Sierra....... Are they the same???

Can someone post a pic of a Sierra 3500 logo?

So it appears that the front of shirt in pocket area will have the look with the 3500 Dually Club in same text as factory with the Sierra and Chevrolet logo on each side then below that will be a pic of the rear of the truck with no emblems, Just to show the big butt of our trucks.

The back of the shirt will proceed as stated with the 1/4 angle shot of 1 Chev and 1 GMC.

Thanks in advance for the pics

Jeff
