For the past several months I have noticed my exhaust smells like I'm burning 90w gear oil instead of diesel fuel. I use Rotelas motor oil. Truck does not leak a drop! All fluids are clean and full. No additives in the fuel.????????

Sounds like a half plugged catalytic converter.
Put a big load on the truck, 10,000 plus fiver for example, run it an hour or two at or near full throttle to clean it out.

What year is your truck? How many miles on it?

You may want to fill out your sig with your truck information.

This probably won't clean out the cat but it sure will melt your turbo. :cookoo:

You may have a rear axle seal leaking. I had a pretty good leak on one side of my truck and you could smell a slight whiff of gear oil standing near the rear of the truck. Take the rear wheels off and see if the hubs have any gear oil on them.

Or just do what turnpike said and blow the truck up. ;)

The truck is an 05, 36000 mi, fresh oil change (every 5000mi), rotated the tires and checked the rear seals and no leaks. The smell is more noticable after driving 50 to 100 mi. It's coming from the exhaust.

It is probably the Rotella oil-- common complaint-- do a search and you will see that others have complained also.

I think your right about the Rotella oil. I didn't notice an odd smell when I used Mobil Delvac oil. Thanks.

I had a similar smell on my truck. I was making a trip from Vancouver B.C to Des Moines Iowa to pick up a travel trailer I bought, 2000 miles each way. On the way down I started to smell oil burning but could not find out where it was coming from. On the way back with the trailer going through the mountains of Montana I hit snow and decided to use my 4 wheel drive. Put it in and then all of a sudden it just starting banging away. Took it out and it went away then put it back in and it started again. When I got back I took it in to the dealer and they checked it out and found no oil in my transfer case at all. I told them that before I left I had the oil changed and all the fluids checked and everything was up. They then looked into it further and found that a bolt from the oil pump inside the transfer case had come loose and rubbed the inside of the casing and made a very small pin hole in it and the oil had all leaked out. That was what I had been smelling on the way down. They ended up coving it under warranty and put a new transfer case in. This is probably not what is happening to you but I figure I would just throw that out there.
