I at the end of the project and I do not know the procedure for adjusting the rear drums. Anybody have any idea how far out to turn the star adjusters?
Thanks

By getting the disks?
LOL, sorry but I was pondering the same question for a while.

With the wheels in the air turn the out till they make a slight scraping sound. This is a good start and then I like the hammer on the brakes in reverse trick. As long as the brakes are clean and greased and the adjusters are also greased up and are free it works the best.

GM rear drums adjust by backing up moderately fast and applying the brakes. Unless they are badly out of adjustment, once or twice should do it. They are supposed to do this automatically when you back out of your driveway. Go find a large parking lot with no cars.

If this is after a brake reline then jack up the vehicle so the tires turn free. USE AXLE STANDS!!!! Pop out the dust cover in the backing plate. It may be metal or rubber. Get a brake "spoon" and you can flip the star wheels reaching through the slot. Turn until you get drag so you can barely turn the wheel by hand. Have someone step on the brakes to recenter the shoes then do again. Best if you drive a few days and do again or use the method above.
