I would like to order a set of the tailgate straps from VR. Anyone know how to do so? I found a link when I did a search here, but it doesn't seem to work quite right.

:help:

Thanks!

Other than the truck, those straps will be the second best purchase you've ever made in your life! Those are fantastic!! Everytime I load a sled or bike, I feel much better looking at those stainless straps than I ever did that little cable. Worth every penny!

Take a look at the VR straps website. The recall is replacing the faulty braided OEM cables with "improved" OEM braided cables (made in China). There hasn't been enough time to tell if the "improved" cables will resolve the issue - but they are essentially the same design, that lead to "mystery corrosion" hidden within the plastic sheath that caused sudden failure without warning. The VR straps are stainless steel plates with a hinge pin in the older style that are not only exceptionally strong but have no hidden area to contain and produce weakening corrosion. Apples and Oranges.

I really like the VR stainless straps, but the waiver will prevent me from buying any. No warranty whatsover. If they're that good, they should have a lifetime warranty.

I don't know why you would be worried about a warranty on these items. They are not a serious safety issue (although the original OEM cables certainly are), they are not a "big dollar" item and most of all - there's very little chance of the straps not outlasting not only the useful life of several trucks but probably the life span of a couple of people! The primary reason for the waiver is that the producer and seller of these items is just one "regular guy" with a family. He does not want to become the target of a friviolous and destructive law suit that may bankrupt him and ruin his life - even if he were successful in his defense. Sad but true in today's litiginous age.

Ben,

If you made a poll asking people who bought VRStraps if they thought these were an excellent addition to their truck, I'll guarantee you that 99.9% would say "Hell YES!"

The only reason it's not 100% is because there's ALWAYS someone who ya can't make happy.....

Rick put a lot of time and effort into these, and Idle's right, the waiver is only there to protect his family from some sue-happy person.

VERY WELL SAID! Our society is so prone to sue someone for anything. I would like to remind everyone that this matter is one of few places in the Bible where the LORD dares us to not do it.

1st Corinthians Chapter 6:

1: Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
2: Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3: Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
4: If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
5: I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
6: But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.
7: Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
8: Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.

Your argument of just one "regular guy" with a family also encouraged me. I had it in my mind that a "company" was selling these. And any company selling something without a warranty triggers a red flag.

Thanks for correcting me.

My wife just told me what LLC means (Limited Liabilty Corporation). Normally only individuals carry the LLC extension, not companies. So I am grateful and will eventually order a set.

Thanks again.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how to order online at that site.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how to order online at that site.I assume you chose the "order" button on the homepage. You can't really order online due to the waiver. You can pre-arrange your payment electronically, but you'll have to download, print, sign and mail your waiver to complete the order processing.

The two Tom's pretty much sized everything up for me.

I'm not a large corporate entity as many assume. A long story short, when issue of the cables first came around in a discussion at a GTG I decided to fix the problem for myself. I then showed off what I had done for myself, I began to get requests for additional sets for other people. When demand reached a large number I found myself in a position to where I needed a line of defense against potential lawsuits.

Hey VR,

I'm glad to see you're still around these parts...

Just to show the others how confident I am of my straps that were purchased a long time ago, pre-waiver (second batch I believe) still in use (great product.I might add)

If you'd like to send me the waiver form PM me and I would be glad to fill one out for you...

BTW...Did you ever pursue the LA Guard Dog lead I gave you? just curious

Take care, and thanks for the superior product...

I'm still an active user on these parts, more reading these days than participating though. I never did persue the guard dog thing. I modified the straps to fit both the pickups and the Avalanches and between these two groups I had more business at times than I could keep up with. On top of all that I had a tornado wipe out my hunting property(which I finally got all settled last Feb) and I've still got a 2 1/2yr old that requires a lot of love and attention(along with my 16 and 14yr olds). Than add my regular day time job of 55+hrs a week and well.....

Anyhow most importantly I'm glad you're satisfied and feel you got your money's worth. This isn't a huge profitmaker for me, but I do enjoy being known for doing something that people appreciate.

Another satisfied VR Strap customer here. I feel a lot better loading up a touring bike than I did with those POS OEM cables.
