Ok I know this is probably a beaten into the ground subject. But I am so tired of dealing with this thing. Obviously I am not going to find a set of used heads that don't have a couple little cracks.
The heads I pulled off of my engine had some severe cracks.
I picked up a set of heads from a friend of mine and between the two heads there are about 4 cracks, little cracks between the valves. Both have the them on the front and rear. Is there any way to fix this? I don't want to buy new heads. I won't be worth it for me to do this?
Any opinions would be great.
Thank you
Cheers

its common to find cracks between the valves on these heads, and they usually dont cause a problem. the cracking was more prone to the earlier heads with the large valves.

Ok cool thanks.
They are off of a 84 J code.
The heads that came off of my engine had a huge crack between the precomb and intake valve, that is where it was burning coolant from.

To be on the safe side have them tested before installation then you know if they are leaking or not . most of them are craked between the valves thats almost normal:rolleyes:

For piece of mind, there is a kit available to "sleeve" the cracked area so it won't happen again. My machine did this to some 6.5 heads I had rebuilt.

Ok sounds good. So if I get them tested and they do leak, then is there any way to get them fixed??

Ah, Cool thank you. Didn't see that.

Thanks again!

Call up Heath, Bill seems to think that sleeving is the way to go. I've had it done and it works ok for me. Just not to many shops do it, call Bill.
