My 01 GMC was towed in last Saturday and tech diagnosed and started on it on Monday. They even had the parts in stock.. Should it really take a week to replace all 8 injectors? It calls for 8 hrs... What has me concerned is the fact that they ran into problems. It was supposed to be done Wednesday, then yesterday at 5, then it was today at noon. Just called and they are still "buttoning" it up. The service manager said they ran into a slight coolant leak. I am getting a little concerned at this point.:grd: -thats what I told the service manager.. LOL
thanks Dan

The real problem a lot of times is that there is 1 or maybe 2 guys in a shop that will work on diesels. I dont know about the others, but very rarely do I get left alone to get the job done. Usually it ends up being a 2 day project to get done. Or it can be possible that when he pulled the injectors out, one of the sleeves lifted and he didnt notice and it did end up with a coolant leak.

I'm with Cobra, you get started, and then some rush job, waiter oil change, or something else gets you pulled off.
Every customer wants to have prefferential treatment, and it just isn't possible.
I know that if I have had a suck azz week, I'll snag as may Oil changes, tire changes or anything that can be accomplished quickly, as often as I can. I can't do the injector job reliably in 8 hours, I've tried and I miss things, I'd just as soon take my time, do it right and do it once. I've yet to have an injector job come back when the whole set has been done.
hours are tight, I'm to the point if someone offered me a lower hourly rate and 40 hours consistent, I'd pack my junk and head for the ranch. These recalls and warranties are for the birds. really getting to be a PITA !!!

we're getting .5 for oil changes, which I never could figure out, but I'm not questioning.
I'm tired of spending an hour checking plugs and connectors for a loose/flaky connection to get paid nothing.
had a Avalanche the other day, p0442 small evap, sure tighten the cap, but check all the other evap connections while your under it doing the oil change. wrote that in the story, got nothing. 0 no time, should have at least got .2-.3. worked on 6 vehicles Wed. booked 1.7 hours.
I'm tired of 90 hour pay periods and 45 hour pay checks.

The worst part is that your dealer is charging 180 hours for your 90 of work at $100 per hour. Maybe an exaggeration but its not far off.

Always write up the smoke cart on the evap leaks, they pay .6 I think it is, even if you dont find anything.

Man that sucks ass. When I had my 01 hd D/A lifted it took a month at the dealer. A little aggravating but the mechanic is anal about doing things right nothing wrong with that.

Depends on when that was, we had 3 of them sit out back for a month, waiting on the back order of injectors.

I understand. Hourly is the way to go. times are hard in the dealer.
