Just got back from a trip to Southern Utah, through Monument Valley, Moab, and across US-70 from one end to the other. A total of 1200 miles and not much was flat. US-70 rises and falls from 4K up to 8k. The wind was as bad as I have pulled in and we get a lot out here. I ran one 15 mile stretch in 4th gear at 16-17 lbs. of boost. The 4" did just what I hoped. I never hit 1250 one time. It would run right up to 1050-1100 and then shift down. I averaged 11.97 MPG for the 1200 miles. I do believe the 4" is going to give me a little better mileage in the long run. Nothing but nothing could climb the big hills with me. I tested two new Dodges on a couple very long 6% grades. One was pulling almost the same trailer as mine and the other was smaller. One was close but not good enough. I won the cigar both times. The truck coughed this morning like I turned the key off and then took off like nothing happen. I was in third gear accelerating. It has done this three times in 60K. All three times it was raining. Other than this it ran great the whole trip. The 4" is a little loud but I highly recommend it. Later! Frank :D

Frank, what level were you running the juice?
I will be towing a 12,000# 5th wheel in a few weeks, I will be running the Attitude on level 1. Around town on level 3, I get to 1000 just going up a small hill, empty. I am concerned when I start pulling the trailer.
BTW we will be vacationing in Utah this year in September, looking forward to it. I have only been to SLC.

Mama JJ wants me to get my a$$ in the office and do some paperwork, JJ wants to hook the 5ver up and take er' for a spin with my new 4" cool duals! :ro) You know who will win this battle! :o: Maybe if I can get enough done today I can play with the 5ver tomorrow. ;)
Good report Frank. What were your MPG's before the 4", also average speed? Those are awfully good figures especially with the wind you encountered. JJ :)

Before this trip I had a 11.5K average of 12.1 so nothing on this trip changed that much. This trip was absolutely the toughest towing conditions I have encountered that is why I made the comment about picking up a little mileage. I tow at 68 MPH whenever I can. I always tow in Tow/Haul with the cruise on. This is the first trip where I had to run a lot of miles in 4th gear and used down hill runs at the hills. I was taching about 2200 at 55 MPH. When I managed to cruise in 5th the EGT was 1000-1050. Like I said: This was a one tough tow. I will post some new numbers after our next trip. Later! Frank
PS: One thing I forgot to mention. My truck pulls a lot harder with the trailer in tow when merging onto the freeway. :D
