2006 D-Max C.C. long box 4wd HD2500

When you turn the key into the on position all the electrical accessories work fine. Turn the key to start and nothing happens other than the headlights automatically come on. The starter relay in the fuse box under the hood does not click. The headlight relay does click. Climbing under the truck reveals that the small wire to the starter does not send 12 volts to the starter to activate the starter selenoid. Jumping from a the + terminal on the starter to the small wire will spin the starter and turn over the truck, but it won't start.

I have an Astro Start auto start and I have checked it over thoroughly to see if it is the issue. I can find nothing wrong with it. Disconnecting the auto start did nothing.

Read the codes with my cheap code reader and there are no codes.

Truck sat outside for two days at 30F since the last time it was run. It had no issues before this. Moved into a 70F garage for two days to warm it up with no change.

Any ideas before I pay to tow it 60 miles to the nearest dealer?

What do you mean by disconnecting the auto-start? I personally would remove the whole thing and check all connections where it was spliced in to be sure of no broken wires or even damaged wiring. The remote starter is most likely your problem.

Is the starter kill on your Astrostart wired in? If so, that is likely your problem. If not, then it is doubtful that the r/s is the culprit.

Not sure if your 06 is wired like my 02, and I'm not sure about the Astrostart,
but with my 02, IGN C Fuse 20A which is Hot at all times, supplies +12V to two contacts on Ignition Switch.
When you jumpered starter, did you have Ignition switch in ON position? If the Ign Switch was on, I'd suspect no power from IGN C Fuse 20A.
If the Starter Relay in Fuse Block Underhood does not click with ignition switch in START, you could have bad Ignition Switch contact, open CRANK Fuse 10A, bad NSBU contact, or bad Starter Relay. Check CRANK Fuse, check for +12V at this fuse when in START, try starting truck in Neutral, or replace or swap Starter Relay with a new one, or another simular looking relay.
Gonna be late for work, have to go. Good luck.
Or again, is this Astrostart related?

Disconnected the Astro start completely. Unplugged every connection and checked every soldered in connection. No joy.

Got pissed, slapped it on a wrecker, sent it to the dealer. I've got bigger fish to fry this week

Let us know what causes it. Thanks

No NSBU on an 06. They have an internal switch called a IMS (internal mode switch). I had alot of trouble with mine, even got a defective one which caused a delayed start(also caused me to scratch my head alot since smptoms were different than before). If you left the switch on for about 5 full seconds then turnrd to start it would do it. Other than the delay everything else worked OK including shift indicate lights. Too bad I didn't see this in time or I'd have told you to check for that delay. My money is on the IMS anyway. Or possibly you jump started it and fried the tcm?

I mentioned there is no NSBU but IMS really does the same thing as one I guess, but it's just a hell of a lot harder to change.

Just found out that I never finished this thread. Wires rubbed through under the main fuse box under the hood. They had it fixed quick and for only $150.
