: Tranny Slip Percentage.....

I've been playing around with my new Edge Juice / Attitude for about a week now. Last night I set it to show the tranny slip percentage.

I was suprised. What are the "normal" or "typical" slip percentages? At what point do you know you have a problem? I know next to nothing about tranny's but the numbers I saw seemed alarmingly high....:(

What percentage do you see when going down a road at a steady speed, unloaded, w/o the torque converter locked? What about when starting from a dead stop going up a relatively steep incline? Normal acceleration (sp) from a stoplight???

I just wanted to know more about these percentages and when (or if) I should be worried.

ANY help would be appriciated --

Thanks! :ro)

Jeff, when the torque converter is unlocked you will see slippage, but it's not actually slipping (ask idle chatter more about that). With the TC unlocked, I usually see anywhere between 0-50 percent slip while accelerating and around 20 percent slip when cruising in 5 gear unlocked. The most important slip is when the TC is LOCKED. Put the truck in tow haul and when the TC is locked, you shouldn't see any slippage. When you get to cruising speed in 5th gear locked sometimes the percent will flicker from 0.0 to 0.07 and you shouldn't be worried about that.

Thanks for the reply. Definately the answer I was hoping to hear.

It just freaked me out when I saw 50, 60, 70% slip with moderate acceleration -- everything felt fine, but those seemed like crazy numbers!

Thanks again --
