: Best Convertor
steve hughes 03-24-2005, 03:33 PM I have a 2002 Duramax dually with a leaking Allison. A friend and i will be going thru the tranny. What is the best convertor to go with. And also a vender or two to buy a convertor from. Truck is stock now but will have an Edge box in the future. Thanks
Diesel Dragon 03-24-2005, 03:34 PM I'll get the popcorn
ratlover 03-24-2005, 03:39 PM Make sure it has genuine yak hair in it and not any of that immitation BS
a single disk from www.suncoastconverters.com, www.ttspowersystems.com, or ats and sorry I cant remember thier site name. Give Mike L a call 310 674 4400 or PM him and he can sell you anything you want including all the allison innards.
ratlover 03-24-2005, 03:40 PM Also do you know were its leaking and why do you want to play with the trans? Could be something simple like leaking bolts on the front case. The early ones are known for that.
Edit: My single disk comment was based on thinking you were just doing a basic rebuild? What are your goals or do you want to add power and if so how much? Regardless even if your not going to flog your truck I would spend the extra few $ and put a transgo shift kit in it if you are taking your trans apart.

I will get the beer. Need some chairs.
Whichever you choose, buy a name brand and buy it here. You won't go wrong with any of the Dieselplace vendors and no charge for information, and you will get plenty good info. :D

ratlover 03-24-2005, 03:44 PM is it a bad thing when you have your trans guys number commited to memory??? I honestly cant even remember my moms # :o:
Edit: Wait! after thinking about it I do remember! See mom I'm not that bad of a son
sp33d 03-24-2005, 03:45 PM is it a bad thing when you have your trans guys number commited to memory??? I honestly cant even remember my moms # :o:
I hope not, or we're both in trouble!
dmaxalliTech 03-24-2005, 04:27 PM I got some Redenbacher here... the good stuff only for the trans threads.
I wouldnt waste you time with a single disk with the small price difference to go to a triple. Then its done and over with.
Like said above, you wont go wrong with a major company and some good places here to buy.
lakingslayer 03-24-2005, 04:51 PM I don't know how much more popcorn I'm going to be able to eat if I want to keep drinking beer. Stout beers tend to fill me up and I've been drinking a lot reading these tranny threads.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/beerchug.gif

I didn't realise until now that the the Suncoast Level IV comes with a triple disk TC :o:. When the funds existed, I was thinking about a TTS Triple Disk converter, and the suncoast IV guts. I've heard some good things about the TTS Triple Disk, but I haven't heard anything specifically about the Suncoast Converter. Are the TTS and Suncoast Triple Disk converters about the same in quality? Also, the Suncoast kits don't touch the C5's?
steve hughes 03-24-2005, 07:12 PM The tranny is out of warranty. 62,000 miles on it. I was looking at the ATS, TTS, and Suncoast. Just wondering if there are any issues with any of them. It looks like it's leaking from the convertor, not the bottom bolts. Tranny has to come out so i might as well go thru it with the good parts. I will go with a triple disc. While it's apart i want to upgrade it now in case i decide to go nuts with it later. My 86 Grand National started out to be a 12 second car and now is in the bottom 10's . This truck will probably go that route sometime.

Nope, it's only covered with the 3/36 bumper-bumper Warranty....It's a common misconception that it is though, kinda like cOnStar is a satellite phone...
