: Vibration after Cognito UCA Install

I installed my Cognito UCA leveling kit, with Bilsteins about a year ago. When I first did it, I leveled the truck out and developed a vibration at about 55-60mph. It seemed from the front end. I had the wheels rebalanced with no change. I ended up having to lower the front end down a little at a time until the vibration finally stopped. My only problem is that I'm back to a rake and want to level the truck out. The CV's had some angle, but I've seen worse. Is there something I am missing here? I see pics of trucks that are leveled out and they aren't complaining of vibrations. I am kinda stumped on this one. Thanks for your input.

I believe I have this as well it is most pronounced at 50-60, I attributed this to the large tires I am running but now I believe it may be the body mounts, that many people have spoke of and I think its called beam shake, but I could tell a noticable differece when I lowered my from t end down to about 7.5 frpm 8.5, the ride got alot better but it still has some serious shake from 50-60, might want to check out the body mount threads and see if this is indeed what you are also exp.

Check out the post on suspension "bounce" . My truck also did that at a certian torsion setting and at a certian speed, drove me nuts! I dont think its the UCA's though, i think its just the torsion settings. I had to do the same thing and lower mine a bit. But it may be the beaming of the frame too. I just ordered the new body mounts recently, let you know how it works. Everyone has said it works really well.

Well, I guess I could do this. Could anybody that has a NBS, that is leveled w/ Cognito's arms, give me their wheelwell measurements? I am running 285's as well. I am just curious to compare other's truck heights to mine just to see if I was overcranked or what. Right now my front is at 40 1/2" with about 50psi in the tires.

Don't use the fender to check. The area to look at is the space between the UCA and frame stop, tells you the complete store no matter how many other differences between trucks. You should have NO LESS that 1/2" @ MOST. 3/4" is ideal. The higher the truck sits the less space.

Hope this helps.

Shouldn't the front end be re-aligned after replacing the upper control arms plus cranking up the torsion bars? I would think that the added lift would change the toe a little.....right? Plus the camber too?

Not to high jack the tread but the UCA kit adds 2-3" of lift without having to crank the bars right? I don't want a full 4" lift due to cross country towing a camper but I do need some extra lift for the back trails during hunting season and taking the kids motorcycle riding. So just to clarify/verfiy....the UCA kit will add lift? Again....sorry to high jack :o:

Not necessarily. The 2-3" comes from cranking the T-bars. What the UCA's do compared to the factory ones is offer more down travel, and a stronger design. You can get about 2" I think with the factory Torsion keys. The Cognito keys are indexed differently so you can get the 2"-3". With the Factory UCAs, you wouldn't be able to crank to 2"-3" because the UCAs would rest on the frame stop and cause VERY harsh ride. The Cognito UCAs are smaller in diameter and give more space between the UCA and frame stop, allowing you to crank higher, and still have clearance between the UCA and frame stop.

The cognito leveling kit will lift the front of the truck 2"-3", but only the front. Stock, these trucks sit 2" lower in the front compared to the back. So the 2" lift up front will level it out, thus its called a leveling kit. Now with the 4"-6" lift, those numbers are based off the factory stance being 2" lower up front. So in reality, with the 4"-6" lift set at 4", if the truck is level, it's actually a 2" lift front and rear. Set at 6" and level, it would be a 4" lift front and rear.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks kilo6490 & Nor-Cal Nick. You guys made great sense of it for me. Now I understand why my rig is so damn rough off road, especially when a front tire drops into a hole. It's just hard to drop $1650 for a front end only lift w/o shocks. Damn IFS!

You're welcome Coyote. And thanks Nick for that link. Pics really help when trying to explain things. Glad we could help.

The vibes you're getting are from the CV joints, more angle, more vibes. If you jack up your truck at the frame and turn your tire by hand you'll feel the bind I'm describing, some are more forgiving than others.

Well, my UCA clearance's are about 3/4"-1", so I guess that's where I need to be. Guess I just have to save up for that lift!

Thanks for all of your input!!

I don't have the vibrations now, I had them when I had the truck cranked up a little more.

My tires created a vibration after the last rotation, have you rotated your tires recently.

I have rotated the tires recently. But this all happened about a year ago. Since then, I had to lower it down to get rid of the vibration. It has no vibration now. I was just getting the itch to raise it up a bit more.

So when you had less clearance/ turned up more you had the problem but now it's gone? 3/4"s is good so yes if you want more a full lift is your next step.

You can get a 4" Cognito kit complete for around $1810 +s/h $1650 is for the non torsion bar drop kit
