I’m probably making this a lot harder than it needs to be, but does anybody make a light switch device, or add-on, that will flash trailer tail and brake lights on during the day, and off after dark when thanking a trucker for their headlight flash when passing?

I pull a 38ft 5th wheel, and would like to hit one switch or button to thank truckers when they let me know it’s ok to pull back in after completing a pass. During daylight hours, the trailer and tail lights should flash on. After dark the trailer and tail lights should flash off.

I’ve been using my emergency flashers to flash the brake lights both day and night but would like to have a setup that would do what I describe above. I can put in a switch that turns the trailer and tail lights on and off during daylight, and another one that will turn them off and back on after dark, but I can’t figure out how to do both with one switch or one relay.

There were some posts about this topic back in 2006 but there didn’t seem to be anything new since then. Any new ideas, or should I just stay with the emergency flashers?

Thanks

I just use my emergency flashers, I would have to do some looking around in the trailer wiring schematics to figure out how to do what you want to do.

x2 plus the hazard/flashers are brighter than the running lights when you're headlights are on so they're sure to see it! I make a point to thank them, alot of them arent so happy to have 'little brother' out on the road with them. The one's that are nice to me I make sure not to piss off.

I've got the addon switch, but I didn't put it in myself, so I don't know what they did. 2 seperate switches, one for trailer lights, one for the trailer batt charge

I was thinking about something like this the other day when I was working on a truck. I know in big truck they have a switch that kills the trailer cleance lights, so maybe go to a truck dealer or supplier and buy the switch, then just cut the cleance wire and wire the switch in and whenever you hit it, it will cut the power to the lights until you let go of it.

use the headlight switch in the dash, 1 click to the right and back x2 during the day, 1 click to the left and back x2 at night.

Or use flashers, day or night.

during the day you could just reach down and flip the running lights off and on with the oem switch. At night you would probably be best with a switch spliced into the trailer running light system to toggle them off and on. You could just tap the brake pedal lightly a few times but that disconnects cruise if you are using it.

check out this site: http:/mysite.verizon.net/vze54tx9/id15.html

It shows you how to wire a switch to flash the tail lights.

I just give them the left blinker after I make the lane change...assuming you are moving back into the right lane.

DO NOT TAP THE BRAKE PEDAL!!!!!!!!
Use the fourways or left turn signal after lane change.
I hate it when four wheelers do that.

You could extend the fuse out and break into one side of the feed with a switch. I think O'reilly has an extension for doing this.

I haven't tried it myself, so I can't say if it works or not. Have fun.
