: Autometer boost gauge responsiveness
Can anyone running autometer boost gauges comment on their behavior for me?
I just setup mine the other day and it seems to only show boost when I lay down on it/accelerate. At cruise speeds, it seems to register at 0 PSI. Is this correct? or should it be responsive and show a boost at all times? Because my Juice shows 4-6psi at cruise speeds
I am thinking I may have a leak somewhere as to where it does not create a vaccuum or some type of seal to actually keep it pressurized at all times.
Chisuzu 03-24-2005, 05:37 PM You have the vacuum tube type?
dmaxalliTech 03-24-2005, 05:48 PM check for leaks or damaged tube
heartbeatcanada 03-24-2005, 05:51 PM My 35lb Autometer gauge would show 4-5 while normal driving..............now that i have a 60lb gauge, Autometer as well, it shows notta..........it doesn't seem as responsive as the 35lber at lower boost levels....................but it loves to hang out at 45-50lbs
Chisuzu 03-24-2005, 06:43 PM Mine is sans tubing. Its a 0-60PSIG. Has a little sender unit that kinda looks like a little fuel injector. As soon as I get the wiring extended, I'll be happy to post the results.
BMDMAX 03-24-2005, 08:33 PM The Autometer 60 pounders loose a bit of resolution on the low end but cruise boost levels pretty much mean NAFT. The 30 and 35 pounders won't cut it with a big stack on the LLY much less twins down the road. I want to know how far that needle will go rather than it pegging out......
Thanks for the intel guys, I had tried to replumb both sides and it does seem to move a bit now, but overall, still nill while driving which seems to be the consensus..
brett6.6 03-26-2005, 05:08 PM hey i got the same setup on my truck my 35lb autometer shows nothing at cruising speeds while my juice shows around 4-6lbs. everything on the tubing is correct so i dont know what could be wrong
Chisuzu,
Didnt see your quesetion till today, duh!! No vaccuum seal, just refering to the state that its in, such as a seal or a vaccuum, cause a leak in the line would ensure that the pressure in the line drops, thus going back to 0 psi eventually.
Brett,
so far, it just seems to be the characteristic of these gauges..

Wish I would have read the info about the Autometer 35 psi gauge earlier today! I just spent an hour chasing ghosts I think. I did have the +/- 30 psi Autometer Ultralight gauge which was very responsive and always showed 4-6 psi cruising. Just installed the 35 psi gauge so I could set/monitor my boost after messing with wastegate and noticed the same thing ... 0 psi cruising and the boost doesn't start coming up until you lay into the throttle a bit. Since I had only removed the boost line from the backside of the gauge I thought it might have been leaking there so I removed it again and installed a new ferrel, pipe tape, etc. with no improvement...so I'm certain the problem is in the gauge sensitivity itself. I did double-check the connection on the 'T' in the WG line, etc. and it was fine. I saw 30 psi this afternoon though ..."almost there" :)
nassdmax 04-29-2005, 09:03 PM my 35 pounder shows 4-6psi on cruising speed... I have no issues with responsiveness.
Autometer Z-series.
tophog 04-29-2005, 09:09 PM All I know is in the Ultralight version there is a big difference between 2 of my gauges ...using the same tubing. I wonder if there is any difference in the internals across models? It's ironic several people have reported the same thing on the 35 psi Ultralight gauge.
My Autometer 60 pounder is just off the peg at 75mph, normal then?
GMC2500HD 04-29-2005, 11:31 PM I have the 60psi and mine barely registers at cruising speed or low, but when I get on it, that is a different story...
coyotekid 04-29-2005, 11:54 PM The 60 psi DiPricols have excellent responsiveness even at low boost levels. Mine shows 4 psi when cruising at 70 mph.
