Well, I've been following this discussion for a few days "Next Door" and thought that I would bring it up here. There's a big debate in a F***d forum about this:

http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=99upgen1&Number=2319683&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&fpart=all

And here's the article that purports the use of Acetone and started the whole discussion:

It doesn't look too "Snake Oil" to me. There's a lot of energy and concern over material compatibility in the fuel system with the Acetone. However, I'm beginning to think that a dilution of 1.5 oz to 10 gallons of fuel is pretty thin for potential damage and might be interested in "biting the bullet" to see if it really does provide any performance/economy gains.

Interesting to say the least. Scary, though!

I'd think acetone would really destroy the lubricity of #2?

Ya putting nail polish remover in your fuel??? Don't know if I care to try that!!!

If it is so diluted it won't cause damage, it is probably so dilute that it will not show an effect.

I use dsl additive by RBP.

Aside from the problems of elastomer/polymer compatibility, making the fuel tank flammable due to the increase in vapor pressure, reduced flashpoint, and decreasing lubricity...

I think one of you guys should try it in your truck and let us all know how it works!):h

If it were a cetane enhancer, it would have been in there years ago since it's much cheaper than 2-ethyl-hexyl-nitrate or octyl-nitrate.

But seriously, I would not put something with that low a flashpoint into diesel fuel. I was kidding about suggesting someone try it.

Oh, and for the oil-company conspiracy theorists, they'd love to be able to get rid of it. It's a byproduct of the process used to make phenol. That's why it's so cheap. If it could be in gasoline or diesel, it would be.

Liftedhdrado, I also use the HP formula from RBP. They are 2 mins away from me.

LATER!

Phenol (carbolic acid)...nasty stuff, we work with alot of it here. Acetone, wouldnt want to spill any on my body panel, unless you like perpendicular pin striping.
