With all the talk of trans upgrades I have started to get a little nervous and confused. Please correct me if I am wrong, the Sun Coast IV and V are upgrades of the internals.
Does anyone know of any shop in NC that is reputable and can do the upgrades? The reason I ask is that I just recently got my D/A used, it had 13K on it. The previous owner had the juice with attitude installed on it. At 15K I changed all the filters, fuel, oil, trans. BTW thanks to eberyone on this forum for all the incite and help in getting that done. When I pulled the trans filter the fluid was purple, no the red it is supposed to be. I checked with a buddy that has a 05 D/A with the same miles and his is still red even after all the pulling he does. I changed out the fluid completely, but the color is not quite right. Thinking of flushing the system @30K. Should I wait or go ahead and do it now? I'm thinking hte previous owner abused the allison with the juice and traded the truck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I know Royal Purple transmission fluid is purple in color. Was it a dark purple?
As long as you used a good quality synthetic you should be Ok.

It wasn't a deep purple. I just don't think that the previous owner would have put trhat much into a new truck in terms of changing out the tranny fluid. The turck was bearly broken in for a diesel.
I'm in raleigh, nC.
Thanks forr all the help.

Don’t bet on that. I changed every bit of fluid from bumper to bumper with only 5k to synthetics. I’m not sayin he did, but a lot of us changed everything prior to hitting 10k.

As for the dark fluid. I have seen quite a few of these with relatively low miles on them that had a very dark burnt looking fluid that didnt smell bad at all, even smelled like good clean ATF. GM has a TSB on the fluid color. Its all fine. I have tore these units down with the dark/purple fluid and found not a thing.
As for the shops in NC, cant help you there, but plenty of suggestions and if those come up empty, check with Joe at S/C for a recommendation in your area.
