You will definitely know when it happens- I have only limped once, but mine threw a codes so i got a check engine light- but the big give away is past like 2000 rpm the truck has no go- you can get uup to maybe 55 but that is it! But, once you shut it off and restart you are back ready to go- GOOD LUCK Steven

You will know. The issue with the 5 speed is that when it shifts from fourth to fifth it drops line presure and if you are pushing alot of horsepower the torque converter will not lock up like it should. You will be turning over 3 grand and not really going all that fast, and your tranny temps will begin to rise preatty fast. Alot of people just lock out fifth if the are racing.

I have unfortunately felt that before! Don't want to feel it again! EVER!

I've limped a few times. Truck jerks back and bangs with a HARD downshift. Engine RPM races high and MPH is only like 40 or so until codes are cleared. I usually keep a code reader/clearer in my truck. I have had to clear several times in the past when pulling heavy with a +100 tune.
