Does a 35d Genereation have glow plugs or grid heater? Neighbor says grid heater. I posted this because I wanted to see what replys I got for my question. Here's the question, How much if any does it hurt the motor to start it without letting the heating device work. Just turn the key and start it without letting the heater do it's thing for a few seconds. It sounds like an old semi starting up that chugs along. Then he takes off out of the driveway and hammers the throttle. This can't be good for a cold diesel. Adam

Grid heater. I always let my WTS light go out before starting so I don't know what effects would be otherwise.

If it starts, it starts. Glow Plugs and grid heaters are there to assist in starting. If it doesn't start, no big deal. On the 12v I didn't use the wts light, but with my '03 I let the fuel pump do it's thing before I start it or it will sit there and crank.

O.K Eric, Nice to know. His sits there and cranks for a bit before it starts and chugs till it gets normal.

well even if you do not wait for the the light to go out and start it
.The grid heater still comes on while its running

It wont do any harm to not let the grid heaters cycle. They arent necessary,Dodge specced them to aid cold climate starting, and reduce emissions warming up.If you let them cycle it starts, and smoothes out faster, and no smoke warming up.

I usually wait for my WTS light go out. It runs smoother. If it's cold, the grid heaters stay on for about two minutes after the truck is started. That said, they turn off when you reach 18 mph.
