I'm considering the purchase of an 06 f650 to tow a 4 car hauler back and forth across four states.
The truck has Air brakes and suspension, Engine is 300 hp 3126 Cat 6 cylinder w/ an Allison 5 speed. The axle ratio is 4.63. Can anyone tell me about any persistant problems with the motor or transmission on the fords

Motor and tranny should be fine. Is it a stock truck or a fancy conversion? I've seen some pretty shotty suspension work on some of these fancy 650's that come thru our doors. I actually like the Freightliner Sport Chasis. I am a warranty center for them and they are some pretty nice trucks.

Same here with suspension work. Watch who you buy from as well. Warranty is only as good as the dealer supplying it.

keep the oil changed regularly and you should not have many problems. dirty oil on the heui fuel system causes many problems.

The truck is a stock truck, not a fancy conversion. It is an extended cab and has about 80 k in miles. I had heard that the fords had alot of transmission problems. I've been using a cheverolet for the last ten years and haven't been up on any of the fords in awhile. But it is a good looking truck but looks don't always mean functional...
Alli not a ford trans should be good to go ask for oil, trans sample if they will do get them checked out be for you buy

I'm looking at a f650 ford truck with a 4:11 rear axle as a car hauler between Texas and Florida. I've also seen some f650 fords with a 4:63 rear axle. Which one would be preferred for my use. Any comments regarding the two ?

I'd rather have 4:63, for towing especially with a 300 cat and an Allison 5 speed.
