Right, check out battery in your remote. Had a problem with the 01 I used to own. Get a hot day, 110+ degrees and it was spasmotic in operation. Below that OK. Never found out the problem as I traded it in.

Gotta be the battery. As a battery weakens it will become sporadic in operating the device it is in. The length of time since it was last called upon to deliver current, the ambient temperature, and other factors will affect it's ability to deliver sufficient current to power the device it is in.
