i'm thinking of getting an edge attitude for my 04.5lly and was wondering what the highest power level that would be recommended for a truck with a stock tranny and engine

Dont get it... I have the Edge w/ attitude and have all kinds of problems with it . Search this forum for which comapny makes the best program for the LLY. It is certainly not the Edge!!! If you do decide to get the edge ... Ive got one real cheap for ya! :)

Zoobs, What kind of problems are you having??? After reading countless threads on tuners, I settled on the Juice/Attitude setup. Hope it wasn't a bad move, otherwise I have a Juice/Attitude new in box for sale!

Bigboss, I've read people run level 3 with on problems, Juice claims the same. Levels 4 & 5 need modified trans and exhaust etc. Towing stock, don't go above level 2.

exactly..Edge recommends not running 4 and 5 without tranny mods.

As for the Edge being bad, that is one persons opinion.
Here is my opinion.. I also looked into ALL of the tuners and settled on the Edge..i am very happy with it. It offers tranny protection unlike 99% of the other tuners. Don't get me wrong there are things other tuners can do that the Edge can't and vice versa.

Just figure out what you want and then go from there. You can search on this site for info on any and all tuners.

good luck with your search and decision

I still have mine and I've had it for 6000 miles on all levels and have had zero problems.

I've got two of the most popular (Predator & Edge) units out there and the Edge is by far the more user friendly and when you change power levels you don't have to wait for 50 miles before it starts to shift proper. Edge has just came out with an update for the LLY system and mine is getting updated as I type. It was working fine but I still wanted the latest and greatest. If I were you I would go with the EDGE.

Edge = OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SUPPORT! All electronic components are going to "have their day" in somebody's truck, Edge is no exception. Obviously some have had less than satisfactory experiences with there E/J. In the end I opted for the E/J w/attitude for in-cab "on-the-fly" adjustability, tranny and EGT protection and did I mention "OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SUPPORT"! :ro)

If you are going to use a programmer get an EGT gauge installed at a bare minimum. If you are towing it is a requirement IMHO. Exhaust wouldn't hurt either. Dangit there I go tacking on the MOD's! ):h Bigbossdiesel, have you uttered those infamous "my truck is staying stock" words yet? Fortunately they appear very easy to swallow based upon what 90% of the guys on this forum are posting! Later. JJ :)

I've put around 7000 miles on mine with the edge (no attitude) in levels 3 and 4 with no trouble other than waiting for the truck to warm up so it can come on.Runs good other than that.

Do you have to program each power level 1 time? Per the instructions I programmed mine for level 3 and it runs great, however when I moved it up to level 4 I didnt really see any difference, hince the above question. I have 3000 miles on my Edge W/ attitude and havent had one problem. I just hate waiting for the temps to hit 180 before it kicks in.

I have been running the Juice without attitude or any guages for over 25,000 miles in the highest setting while not towing and on level two while towing and have had zero problems. Matter of fact I was on the phone with the EDGE represenative when I installed mine and he recommmended to set it up that way. I also went to my exhaust man to get a EGT monitor installed and the technician told me unless I was pulling heavy trailers consistantly through the mountains I did not need it. Maybe I was mis-informed by all these people but, I feel like they know more about it than I do. However we are talking about different year model trucks.

thats a safeguard they put in place so people don't go out on high levels when the truck is cold and blow something up. The latest firmware changes it just a little bit though. something like 50% at 167 degress and goes from there.

still, you want that kind of safety net in place so nothing gets destroyed.

Bigboss, Go Juice/Attitude! I love tinkering with gassers, and I am just now crossing over to Diesel (a newbie). I have been modifying cars since the mid 80s and my reasearch has never lead me wrong. Like others have said in this thread, the extra safeguards the Juice has, the majority of the others don't. Thinks that made me decide on the Juice were things like the pyro meter, powering down if trans slipage is noted, the Attitude's ability to change on the fly while driving, it's extra display of readings (extra gauges more or less). Things I picked up just in this thread alone, have reinforced MY descision to use the Juice/Attitude. I don't even have my truck yet (won't be in until 1st week of May), but on the bench sits my Juice/Attitude!

JJs Duramax nailed it great customer support. My vendor sent me a model for a LB7 not a LLY like I have but I did not know it at that time. I had, as you can quess major problems with it. I sent it to edge and Justin was great. He explain to me the mix up.
He shipped it back at his cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No complaits just great service. P.S. My vendor did notice that he was at fault not me or edge. So just my 2 cents.

What a fool~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hmmm ... now Im a fool for having an opinion and an experience that differs from someone elses. Interesting.

I have had a very dissappointing experience with Edge. The smoke is outrageous, it caughs and sputters and I never know how it is going to behave one day from another. I am not alone in these experiences. Do a search.

I came from a highly modded LB7 and never had problems. I imagine it is just taking Edge a little while to get the bugs out on the new engine. I just hate being the beta tester on such an expensive product.

I spoke to someone from Edge the other day and he explained that there is an upgrade for my version but it only really addresses the low rpm surge and the warm up temparature settings. The problems I am most concerned about are excessive smoke and the turbo "bark". From what I understand, the bark can be very damaging to the turbo since it stalls the blade to zero from a very high RPM. The guy from Edge says that I am getting the bark because I have an after market exhaust and then pretty much released himself from any responsibility because of my aftermarket exhaust. I felt like that was a cop-out. What percentage of people who have the Edge products installed on their trucks also have an exhaust? I would imagine very high.

Additionally, I am not running it in level 4 or 5 when I am having these problems. The only level I am not having problems is level 1. Its dissappointing to pay that much for level 1 performance.

Edge is not for me. I appreciate products that work the way they are supposed to. This has not been my experience with Edge. Am I a fool? Debatable I guess ... Am I a fool because I have a different opinion and experience than yours with a product? I dont think so. Waste your money if you like. I could care less. Forgive me for thinking that this forum was designed to share ALL experiences, negative or positive so others can make their own deductions.

I assume you mean the power level? If not, I didnt know you could change boost levels.

I drive mainly in power level 2 until it misbehaves. Than I go down to level 1.

That bark jusgt makes me cringe.

Liftedhdrado

yes you can change the boost level. The boost is different that your power level. Read the instructions, it should tell you how to change the boost level. If it is set to 5 ur truck will smoke like crazy..thats what happened to me when I first had mine installed. I was driving and nothing but black smoke..I called the lift shop that installed it and told me to change the boost level to either 2 or 3..no more smoke, only few blk smoke when u really step on it.

Low Boost Fueling Adjustment
After selecting the Low Boost Fueling Adj option from the Juice Configuration screen
(previous steps), the following screen appears:
Adjusting the fuel at low boost allows you to adjust the way in which your truck delivers
fuel at low boost levels. Select option 1 for the lowest level of fuel at low boost, and
select option 5 for the highest level. You will see a significant change in vehicle
response and smoke level depending on which option you select.

Low boost fuel on level 1 decreases smoke a bit but makes the low rpm response worse than stock (in my opinion).

I am going to try getting the update from Edge .... getting all the current updates from the dealer ... and if that doesnt help Ill throw in the Predator and see how that affects things.

Will do. I am excited to find out that the Predator and the Edge can behave with eachother. Sounds like the best of both worlds : Clear codes and adjust speedo for big tires with the Predator and have the guage and adjustability from the Edge. Ill let you know what happens.

Welll here's the deal: I havent installed the Predator yet (got it last night) but since the most recent post I unplugged my EGR which had pretty amazing results. Less smoke, no more "barks" or "caughs" and smoother, quicker, stronger pulls! Amazing! Its almost like that is just what it needed to make everything run they way oit should! After that I put in the MBRP front pipe (cat-delete) which bumped up another notch. This thing is a beast now! It runs like a damn nuclear sub and smokes 1/4 of the amount.

So... leading to the Predator, which now will just basically be used to clear codes and adjust speedo .... do I have to take off my Edge before I program with the Predator?
