: Have a question for you guys....
TxSqueeze 11-24-2008, 10:42 PM Alright guys, this is my first post here. I joined so I might could get some info from ya'll. I bought a new tow vehicle Friday. It's an 02 Duramax. Truck runs good, get's about 21-22mpg, it's also bone stock. But I have a slight shake when I come to a stop. It only does it when you have it in drive, if you put it in park it smooths out, and idles nice and smooth like it's supposed too. But as soon as you put it back in drive it starts shaking a little bit, and if you give it some gas to begin to drive, it smooths out again. It's kind of comparable to a gas engine flooding, or maybe needing a tune up, that's the only thing I can really compare it to. Looking for some suggestions....
Also, it kind of sounds like excessive diesel chatter. In addition, if I floor it, it is a complete dog until around 60mph and then it feels like you sprayed a 100 shot of nitrous. Just really looking for some advice, as I'm completely lost when it comes to diesel engines.
Thanks guys,
Austin

RI Chevy Silveradoman 11-25-2008, 01:39 PM Just be patient. Everyone is at work. The members will come through for you! There are a few other threads goin about shutters. Take a look see and check them out. ;)
tehbald 11-25-2008, 01:40 PM well, im just going to throw a few ideas out there. i would start with changing all of the filters (fuel, air, tranny). it really sounds to me like it could be a converter trying to go out. as for the low power stuff, it could be tranny, could be cloged filters, could be the injectors (which are known to go out and cause problems). hopefully this gives you a few places to look.
scramHD 11-25-2008, 01:55 PM Welcome to the site. You really should search and read all you can from this site, and in the archives. You will be suprised at how much you can learn about the Duramax. You can even do minor and major repairs yourself because there are how to's and GM master techs, and builders, and people that have done it themselves that are here to help. Sometimes it takes a while for a response. Give it two days and 9/10 times there are enough responses to answer the question.
The shudder you describe could be a number of things. Engine related, trans or suspension related. Since your an LB7 engine code, the first thing is to get a vin check from this site. This will tell you the service history. See what warranty work has been done.
Youve got a tough truck. Keep it maintained and youll get plenty of miles out of it. Of course you could always make it.............just a little bit faster too.
There is also a possibility that the ecm already has a tune in it. There have been stories here about that.
TxSqueeze 11-25-2008, 11:25 PM I searched through some older posts and most had not been resolved, and some ended up being injectors. I'm really hoping it's injectors, that way I can still get it warrantied.

Just because it is an '02 does not mean it is still under warranty.
They go by the in-service date. Do you know what it is? If not, post your VIN in the VIN Check (as suggested earlier in the thread) and your in-service date will be supplied as well as it's dealer service history.
I have an '02 that is out of warranty. In-service date on mine is 10-XX-2001 (can't remember exactly) so I am now officially S.O.L. if (when) I have injector problems.
Can't really help you on the shudder problem besides changing the filters as tehbald has suggested and go from there. Oh, and just to clarify, the tranny filter he is referring to is the little external spin-on that is located on the bottom of the Allison.
Good luck.

Victory Red 11-26-2008, 11:14 AM my truck needed injectors when it did what you describe. Does it smooth out after sitting at a red light for a few seconds?

I have very good friends at the Chevy house that if it is a little late for warranty, they will still cover it for me. All my buddy asked is if the 8th number in the VIN was "1", which it is, and he said it will be no problem. They only thing he can't really warranty for me is the drivetrain, which is really why I'm hoping it's the injectors.

Yep, exactly what it does!
