Apparently there is supposed to be a screen filter inside the fuel settling canister that fits inside of the disposable fuel filter... I don't have one and can't find one. I have been to several local parts houses and to our local dealer. Does anybody know a good source to buy one of these gems? If not my next stop is the junk yard. Thanks to all.

my rig doesn't have one either. what happens is sometimes that little screen can get stuck inside the fuel filter when you remove it. if this is the case you'd have to fish it out of the old filter and reinstall it where it belongs. i'm willing to bet that many of them were tossed in the trash with the fuel filters they were stuck in.

There's one in mine.
I get new ones, but never succeed in removing the old one for replacing it---

That's a Stanadyne part, not GM.
Part # 29244
Found it at first page of part points in the stickies: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59685

They can be had at SS DIESEL, look under fuel strainer, about 6.00 bucks.

Hopefully Walt can explain why, maybe your cheque bounced?

They have them...

website link to non-site vendor removed

Incidentally, the only way to lose one of these would be to pull it off with vice grips, or something, I really can't imagine it inadvertently "popping" out during a filter change, they're on there like a wedding ring.

If you have a problem with the rules that have existed on this site since its inception, PM me or any other moderator directly. Don't bring it out into the open forum. This post was not necessary at all.

Dave is absolutely correct, he is upholding the rules of the site. I would have done the same exact thing.
Please in the future chicken hunter (and everyone) these guys work for free, and don't get many compliments or thank yous... Without them the forum would NOT exist because it would be nothing but chaos rather than helpful FREE information.

Thanks Dave for the good job, and RCPullerdude for the kind words! :thumb:

X2 about mods. Especially on a forum this large. I can only imagine what it's like to moderate a forum this large, but I moderate a (much) smaller forum, and admin a few even smaller ones, along with a couple websites, and let me tell you, it's a lot more work than anyone could imagine. I think the whole DP staff deserves a pat on the back. :beerchug:
