HAVE A 01 GMC 2500HD WITH THE D/M ENGINE AND JUST HAD THE INJECTORS GO OUT ON ME ON A TRIP. WHAT FUN THAT IS.... I FOUND THIS GREAT WEBSITE WHILE LOOKING FOR INFORMATION TO MAKE SURE THE DEALER WOULD COVER IT. I GOT A LETTER IN THE MAIL LAST SUMMER STATING THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE INJECTORS. I TOOK THE TRUCK IS AS I WAS EXPERIENCING LOWER POWER THAN NORMAL AND SOME MINOR DEPOSITS OF DIESEL FUEL IN THE OIL (WE HAVE OIL SAMPLES DONE EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE) THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM FOUND AND "OPERATING AS DESIGNED. WELL OVER THE WEEKEND THE INJECTOR(S) WENT OUT AND I HAD FUEL GOING IN EVERY DIRECTION. MY POOR BOAT THAT WAS BEING TOWED WAS COVERED IN A NICE OIL/DIESEL MIXTURE. ANYWAYS... MY QUESTION IS.. NOW THAT ITS AT THE DEALER, I MIGHT AS WELL HAVE A FEW OF MY DRIVEABILITY CONCERNS ADDRESSED. THE TRUCK HAS 73,000 MILES ON IT. I LOVE THE TRUCK, BUT ITS THE WORST TRUCK IVE EVER HAD IN THE SNOW. EVEN GOT IT STUCK A FEW TIMES... VERY EMBARASSING. THE SERVICE 4X4 LAMP HAS COME ON ABOUT 3 TIMES SINCE NEW. ALL AFTER 50,000 MILES. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN REALLY GOOD IN THE SNOW THOUGH. I HAVE 265/75R16 FIRESTONE STEELTEX'S ON IT. EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE, WHEN GOING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE TRUCK DOESNT WANT TO GO INTO GEAR RIGHT AWAY AND THEN BANGS INTO GEAR AND GOES. DOES THIS ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH. OIL AND FILTER ARE CLEAN WITH NOTHING SHOWING UP IN THE OIL SAMPLES FOR THE TRANNY EITHER.. KINDA STUMPED... ANY SUGGESTIONS? ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A BETTER BRAND TIRE TO RUN? THIS BOARD HAS BEEN GREAT. THE DEALER I TOOK MY TRUCK DIDNT SEEM TO KNOW ABOUT THE FUEL INJECTOR TSB. I WAS ABLE TO PRINT THE TSB OUT FROM THIS SITE AND SENT IT TO THEM. THEY WERE HELPFUL AND ITS BEING FULLY COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED. MY EMAIL IS HOTWHLZS@AOL.COM THANKS! First off, :welcome2: to the forum.

Second, PLEASE DONT SHOUT!

The injectors is a known issue, it is not a 100% across the board problem. I have known a few Dmax's that are in their 100k plus with no injector problems. GM has extended the warranty on your injectors to 200k.

I would tend to believe that your snow problem is 100% due to your Firestone Steelcraps. My 285 revo's do very well in the snow and mud.

The service 4x4 is also a known issue, congratulations, you have about hit them all ):h

If you dealer does not know about the injector issues, I sure the heck would take it someplace else.

Dont know what to tell you on the tranny issue. I know with a Juice Box added that is sometimes will shift hard when cold like mine does.

thanks for the reply... Im sure they knew about the injector issue, but this dealer is like most around here... they want to check it out and check for modifications before saying anything. Once that was done, they said.."Oh yeah" This is an issue..... We'll take care of it right away... hhmm... We even have the parts in stock! Duh! LOL What tires do you reccomend I get.. its about the time to replace em...

D4Dan, Welcome to the Madhouse.

If you stay in all-caps, we'll start calling you Peanut, Jr.....(after a while, you'll see who I'm talkin about)

Stop worrying about the injectors....if it happens, it happens. You're covered, no deductible. Why worry? Just enjoy the truck.

IIRC, isn't the "service 4x4" something to do with the encoder motor not immediately turning on when the truck is started. Eric or GMCSID would know for sure. Mine does it, I'm not concerned about it.

The allison, when cold, goes into "warm up" mode....it delays shifts and seems to be sluggish in order to warm up quicker. As for the clunking, post a question in "ask the techs"

Your traction problem happens to everyone. It's called low-end torque. That, combined with light rear end means ya need to take it easy in snow in 2WD. Heck, mine in 4x4 will get squirrelly if I tromp it too much. Many diff opinions on tires here...HDNate's Revos are probably the best out there right now.

If your dealer doesn't know jack about diesels, look for another dealer that does. Talk to the tech, get to know him....

Didnt mean to shout... LOL It a case of the good old caps lock being stuck on and I was too Ignorant to turn it off. Its kinda sad when I knew more than the service writer at the dealer. I think he got offended when I gave him the bulletin # and information about the injectors... I said.. listen pal... do you have a newer truck with the D/M in it? uhm... "No" was his reply... Well then, When you spend $35-45K for a truck like this your gonna be darn sure it gets fixed correctly. He said "I guess you have a point" I guess?? whats that all about... Problem is... there are not to many good dealers that are close to me. The best one around is about an hour away. We do our own repairs on our other vehicles that are out of warranty. The only reason I would take the truck in would be for warranty work or something computer related that we have no way to check it out. Thanks for the suggestions.. This board is great! Dan

Nope.. havent had a problem with it other than the Fuel Injectors... And I knew this was going to be an issue... other than that its been fine. Never had it in for any warranty claims. I love the truck other than the 4x4.. lol Dan
