: White Smoke, stalling, bucking, Sputtering......
CockDiesel 11-24-2008, 10:23 AM Hey everyone,
I'm a newbie, and Ive been reading as much as possible but now i freaked out that there is a mass number of things wrong with my truck.
I purchased the truck about a month ago. It ran fine, didn't really beat it up or tow anything but there was never a loss of power or any problems noticable, even took it to a mechanic and the only thing he saw wrong was a power steering leak. So feeling fairly comfortable with the truck, I took it to get a lift, some new beefy tires, and an exhaust.....well no sooner did I get it home from the shop and the darn thing stalled out in my driveway as i was pulling in. the next day started then stalled, restarted then a ruff idle. Drove it to work and it was bucking every now and then. changed the tranny oil and added som lucas thinking the tc lockin up. next day rough idle on start then stall. now i turn it over and a huge puff of white smoke is blown out and then stalls.
So i joined this forum seeking guidance and decided the problem was the PMD, purchased a new one and a relocating kit, milled out my own heat sink and felt good that i thoght i solved the problem......by the way the PMD is getting here tomorrow..
Ive still been reading threads and now im freaked out that its a mass number of things wrong.......
any advice
Thanks Gents
Brad
1994ch 11-24-2008, 11:03 AM You have found a really good place to learn everything to know about the 6.5. I had to replace my PMD recantly. The stalling sounds just like mine but I did not have any smoke. There are a lot of great guys on here that will help you get back on the road.
HamOP 11-24-2008, 11:04 AM Hi Brad - :welcome: to The Diesel Place!
THE BEST way to figure what's up with your truck is to actually do the checklist (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42248) items.
Nice job on your signature, btw. Most new folks seem to have a problem with it for some reason.
Anyway do the checklist (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42248) and report back. Hopefully something simple will pop up.

DieselCash 11-24-2008, 12:41 PM Does your lift pump work? It does not specify!
CockDiesel 11-24-2008, 12:43 PM its got pwr and it sounds like its running and there is fuel at the tvlv
DieselCash 11-24-2008, 12:50 PM I could be wrong but I am willing to bet that new PMD will fix your problems. Just be sure to mount it in the front bumper on a heat sink.
CockDiesel 11-24-2008, 12:53 PM i have a heatsink but i think im goin to try to mount it in the cab
i do alot of offroading
1994ch 11-24-2008, 01:06 PM Follow these directions and you should be able to get the codes of uf your truck with a short piece of wire or a paper clip.
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16399
The plug should be at the bottom of the dash there by your knee
HamOP 11-24-2008, 01:08 PM I vote with DieselCash - Sure sounds like PMD - Which will be an FSD once it's off the pump.
I hope folks post the pros & cons of mounting the FSD in the cab. Seems like a perfect place to me... But I don't really know.
If you still have a few coins left after all the mods you're doing - A set of good gauges is not only cool, but help keep you informed on your beast's condition. Probably the best addition you can have for your truck.
CockDiesel 11-24-2008, 02:27 PM Thanks guys, Ill keep you posted
and ill post some pics of fsv in cab and overall truck
CockDiesel 11-24-2008, 02:33 PM fsd
CockDiesel 12-01-2008, 06:44 AM Hey Fellas,
Installed the new PMD/FSD, My truck runs better
BUT STILL THE SAME ON START UP
It turns over and revs a bit, then sputters and then stalls.
Then I turn it over and it runs rough and sputters for like 15 to 25 seconds.
Any Ideas.........I a bit worried
Thanks
Brad
CockDiesel 12-01-2008, 08:06 AM I also noticed this morning that there was water leaking form somewhere . I saw it dripping down the frame in the passenger side wheel well. I am at work so i have not yet investigated.
I also just purchased a ops in hopes this will solve the problem
