: You Guys Tell Me Something Please!
dieselfumes57 03-23-2005, 12:07 PM Why is it in the new diesel mag that the ford is 3 or 400 pounds heavier and less horses and tq than the max and still out pulls it with a load behind, by a good bit. Dont they have the same gearing also? So, some of you smarter folks on here tell me this.
JJs DuMax 03-23-2005, 01:27 PM I'll take a swipe at this one. IIRC Ford has an option for a 4:10 rear end over the standard 3:73 like we share stock. Gives you more towing capacity. I would suspect these are the numbers they are advertising. They also changed the suspension to improve the ride. :rolleyes:
IIRC Ford trucks underwent several changes in the 05 model year that boosted their towing capacity and improved the ride. :) JJ
dieselfumes57 03-23-2005, 01:33 PM sounds like we need to send the max peeps to the ford plant to take lessons
502_Jimmy 03-23-2005, 01:48 PM IIRC, the sick point oh, revs higher than the DMAX. It makes that slight difference in pulling.

nosliw 03-23-2005, 02:14 PM alright this is driving me nuts...

Hardly, wouldnt want any of that 6.0 P(os)SD jiz to rub off on them.
Also, do you always believe what the magazines tell you? I mean think about it, one of them named the lightweight Toyota Tundra as “Truck of the Year”
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
Granted, a <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:time Hour="16" Minute="10">4:10</st1:time> rear will make the difference. If they tested that against our 3:73 then shame on them or a least they should have pointed it out.
DEWFPO 03-23-2005, 04:08 PM Don't the Fords have taller tire/wheel combinations stock as well. That should give them even more of a dissadvantage.

StraitDiesel 03-23-2005, 06:59 PM Actually, I believe Ford's Torqueshift tranny has a lower gear ratio in some of the gears, compared to the Allison. There was a thread on this awhile back and it compared the two different gear ratios of the trannys. That will make a big difference in acceleration, along with a higher revving engine and 4.10 rears.

Tip of the Iceberg 03-23-2005, 07:33 PM Yeah, they have the 4:10, but don't they also have larger tires on them. Wouldn't that even it out a bit?....maybe that and the tranny like StraitDiesel said all makes the difference. There's so much that can be done to get bragging rights including up-tuning them......none of it makes a whole lot of sense to me.
I saw that bit about the Tundra too, but I'm sure they were limiting it to the 1/2 ton class of trucks. Say what you want......the Tundra is a good little truck for it's class IMHO.
j land 03-24-2005, 09:55 AM Well i drove the super duty before i bought the chevy and i can tell you this, there is no comparison in power between the duramax and the 6.0, the duramax has a ton morepower, also the on the ford the turbo is in boost more than the max, i guess its to make up for the smaller displacement. In my opinion there's no comparison between the ford and the cheve, the chevy wins.:ro)
sledman 03-25-2005, 03:00 PM I also drove several new Fords, and a couple of Dodges as well. Considering the whole "package", I found the Chevy tough to beat. And FWIW, my last truck was a Ford, and I really liked it......
