Usually fill up around 1/4 of a tank, however there have been a few times more recently that I have allowed the level to slip to 1/8th of a tank, my problem is - the Truck only accepts 26 gallons of fuel. Am I an idiot or am I missing something. Truck is supposedly equiped with a 34 gal. tank - 1/8th would equal 4.25 Gallons. If my fill up only takes 26 gallons, where the *!*!* is the other 4 gallons?

Below the empty mark. Surely you've noticed that about 1/8 tank resides above the full mark?
It's been that way forever, or since 1970 at least for GM trucks. Don't push you luck with a Dodge though, when the needle touches the E mark the engine dies.

Perhaps I should have been more detailed:
Up unitl about 45,000 miles, my fill ups would occur at this 1/8-1/4 tank point. I would put in approx 30 gallons at each fill.
Now when l fill up the vehicle only takes 26-27 gallons, and I am at the same 1/8-1/4 full point. Also, I get a low fuel light at 1/8 of a tank.
Is this just an extended break-in type thing?
