I just bought an 05 duramax. I have been searching the forum for some basic answers regarding exhaust but can't seem to find them. Can anyone help me.

Is there any advantage for buying an after market exhaust system?
Does it improve power?
Does it improve MPG?

Taking the cat off - does that help power and MPG on a diesel?

The main thing I have noticed is that it dropped my egts especially if used with an intake.

You will get slight improvements in hp/tq, alot lower egt's, better over all drivability. Replacing the cat will get you a little lower egt's, better spool time and maybe a check engine light.
