Could someone explain to me the difference between the two?

265 = width of tire in mm(millimeters) from bulge to bulge when the tire is on a rim at normal pressure.

70 = Is the ratio % of the "265"? In other words the sidewall height is 70% of 265, or about 185mm.

16 = Rim diameter in inches.

So the difference is that the sidewall will be a little taller on the 265 75R16. Therefore making the tire taller.

tires are listed in width x aspect ratio x wheel size

So they are 265 mm wide the side wall is .70% of the tread width and they fit a 16" wheel.

265/70/16 are 30.84" tall

265/75/16 are 31.65" tall

The difference is about 3/4" of an inch.

Thanks guys, I got some cooper st's today that are 265/70's and need to order one to make a set seems they are more expensive than a 265/75 for some reason.

Seems odd they would cost more, maybe it's because the 265/75R16 are the more common tire.

Yea thats what I thought too. A 265/75 is 143 bucks and the 70 is 170. Im putting them on new 16x8 rims and wanted to make sure I dont have any clearance issues. I have the same set in a 285 but Im afraid they will rub. Unless maybe somebody knows more than me?

I'm going to go with 17" 70 285s so if you have an 08 and on you'll be okay from what I've been told

Carl, do you have any idea how big the tire your putting on yours is? Im at a little over 30 inches, like 30 1/2 on this 265/70/16. Im sure Ill get it on mine. Just wondering if I could have stuffed the 285 in there? I sold them now so now I dont have a choice. It just seems that there is not as much room on my 08 as the older body style. I had 285's on my old one with no trimming, just cranked the t-bars up. I cranked up my 08's bars and had 285's on my stock wheels but I dont think they would go on the new rims without rubbing.

Be sure you match the load rating as well - its the letter (C through E for LT tires) after the "16" wheel size. Sounds like the more expensive tire might be an "E" tire, and the cheaper could be a "D" rated tire.
