To start using biodiesel? But with the price of diesel on the rise Iam willing to try. I have a 02 duramax with 100,000 miles.

Thanks in advance

Nothing but an extra fuel filter to be on the extremely safe side. Biodiesel tends to loosen up deposits, which I doubt exist on your truck.................

B20 is a good starting point, but more is always better.

Good luck.........

An extra fuel filter... That doesn't sound too bad. Is it acceptable to run the main fuel tank with regular diesel and a aux tank with biodiesel? Has anyone had any problems switching back and fourth from diesel to bio? As in Oklahoma I don't have a constant supply of biodiesel.

The biodiesel business is interesting...........

Some sellers may have a type (read quality) of biodiesel that should be set aside for "blend only" situations. In other words, if you were planning on running on B100, it would be a good idea to get the fuel tested before use. Blending will allow for you to run a lesser quality BD and still be completly fine.

What you might consider is this: Get a 55g drum, and dispense from it as you need. Thats how I go about it.

manny,

How long does it take you to consume the 55 gallons? Do you have any concern with condensation?

The more I read the more I lean to running BD. After some research I found a place north of Dallas that sells B100. I believe after my next fillup, when the tank is down about 1/8 or so, I'll top it off with BD. Since I have a long bed, this should allow for about 7 gallons, pretty close to B20. I'll post the outcome.

I may have to install the second filter.

Thanks,

MaxRock

I have not seen any water in the bottom of my fuel filters. When I first got the drum, I put some B100 in a bottle, and put it in the fridge. 24 hours later, no cloud. I am nearing the end of my barrel, and I just tried it again. There was just a teeny little bit of cloud, really minimal. I am assuming that is from water build up in the drum over the 3 months Ive had it.

I find it hard to get too scared over water in the drum. Im sure that the tank of the truck is going to be the main water supplier in this whole process, and adding BD wont change that at all.

Depends on how much you drive, and what blend you want to use, but I fill up about 1.5x / month, and I used B25 or so. Took 3 months, but I also used a lot of it in the tractor. <5g in the TDi. Dosent take much to make B20 there............lol

Ron was saying that he would tend to be less worried about water in BD because it offers so much better lubrication anyway.

Blazeman,

You can run biodiesel or a blend in the main tank no problem. However, "arctic condtions" start to set in around freezing. In weather below 30 - 40 degrees, B100 can cloud or gel.:( B20 with winter diesel should be good down to around 0 to 10 above. Below 0 to 10 above, you need a heated tank and lines to run biodiesel or a blend safely.

Straight vegetable oil / waste veg oil is higher viscosity and needs to be heated to around 140 degrees to flow properly. That requires the 2 tank system.

Spring is here, summer's coming:ro) .
