I was looking for a GPS for my truck but i was not interested in having one of those portable units with a wire running across my dash. Then I realized the OEM one from GM was way to expensive, so i was back to the drawing board and i came up with this. It is a Garmin Nuvi 260 total cost under $200 and looks like it belongs

does it pick up signal well in the dash? Or do you have an external antena?

Really looks good.

Sorry about the pic quality, I will use a real camera this afternoon and post new pics. The install and fabrication was very easy. Remove the snap on part of the dash and take out the change holder or whatever you may call it. Cut about an inch off of the change holder, maybe a little more or less. ( I used a ban saw) After you cut the change holder fill it with spray insulation, make sure use enough foam that it comes over the top of the change holder. Once the foam has cured which takes about 24 hours cut off all the excess foam but leave about a half inch past the plastic to allow the GPS unit to be held tight against the dash. Use velcro to keep the GPS unit straight while snapping the dash back into place. As for the power source go to an auto parts store and pick up a, inline fuse i think they call it and a 12 volt accessory outlet so you do not have to cut the power cord. You can use the inline fuse in any outlet that is hot only when the truck is turned on, otherwise the GPS will remain on all the time. I used the rear windshield wiper fuse, which was not being occupied. Connect the inline fuse to the 12 volt accessory outlet and run it under the dash use zip ties to keep it in in place. Run the power cord behind the dash and plug the cord into your new outlet. The square cutout in the dash is perfect for the Garmin Nuvi 200 series. I have had this setup installed in my truck for almost a year and have had no problems. Hope this helps any questions let me know how i can help

hoppins, I moved my airbag switch to the glove box, where it belongs. I now have the crew cab cubby hole in there.

SNAVELY2,

Looks great!

Questions:

Do you just have it tucked in or duble-sided taped between the bezel and the cubby hole?

If not, did you have to trim the cubby (like with a Dremel)?

Are you still able to power it on/off (power button access) or does it power on/off automatically with the truck?

Did you hardwire it?

Thanks,

Candido

used spray foam and velcro
cut the cubby hole with a band saw
used an inline fuse in the rear wiper fuse so that the power turns off and on with the truck
yes i did hard wire it
Let me know if you need any more help
